Default let's talk travel in Africa

A few years ago a friend of mine took his family on a trip to Namibia. It looked amazing...and I've had it in my mind to go since then. Has anyone travelled through Africa recently? Is Namibia as good/safe/easy as it looks in the pictures?

Namibia felt very safe while I was there. The coast and dunes are stunning, most of my favourite Africa landscape photos are from Namibia. Safaris weren't as good relative to other countries but still a wonderful experience.

we're not adventure travelers, so safety and ease are priorities.

Namibia is incredible. You can rent a fully decked out overland vehicle (fridge, roof top tent, sheets, cutlery) from the airport from Avis or budget, and be out seeing wild elephants a couple of hours later

I absolutely loved the couple of months I spent there exploring all over.

thats amazing...but ive got 3 little kids and a wife that may or may not be a princess, so we're looking at something more on the luxury side in terms of trips.

My Mom did a tour through Civilized Adventures with Brian Keating from the Calgary Zoo. The level of luxury she experienced sounds like it would be very suitable.

A potential add-on to this would be a private game reserve in South Africa. No limits of where to go, night and walking safaris, very resort-like accommodations. Exceptional!

Now you got me reminiscing. Spent nearly three months in Africa touring around the better part of the southern half of Africa. I would go back in a heartbeat

Africa as a continent invokes strong feelings of “But why” to me.

My Parents did a Big Africa trip including a luxury tent safari with Brian’s help years back (mom use to work with him)… they probably have the itinerary saved but it would be pretty dated now. Think it was about 15yrs back?

Wife was in Stellenbosch and Namibia for work a the beginning of summer. Out in the desert was awesome, driving through towns was depressing. A monkey broke into the office and stole a jar of cookies.... she enjoyed the cheep beer and penguins....not my jam, but would love to each the stars out there.

Edit....Good luck getting there the same day as planned and not losing your luggage. Wife had 3 flights messed up on her trip there and was re routed twice and had to buy all new everything due to lost luggage for 2 weeks
