Such an amazing city for entertainment if you have money to throw around. Was my first time there.
Can't argue with that. But typical of any major tier 1 cities tho.

I spent a lot of time in TO on a project a few years ago, and enjoyed it as a tourist city - lots of great food, entertainment, wandering around, and things to see. Would I want to live there - no, but did I mind visiting on Company dime? Definitely not!
My take on all Tier 1 cities like HK/Tokyo/London. Cool as a tourist or for entertainment, don't want to live there ever.

Toronto is not a Tier 1 city. People in Toronto think they are the NY of the north. They aren't. They are the Cleveland of the north.

They benefit from a curved grading structure.

LOL, I've never been to Cleveland, but I know that's not a good thing... What makes you say that?

Toronto is routinely ranked as one of the wealthiest cities in the world, and there is no shortage of goods and services catering to that wealth, so it seems that most problems someone would have with Toronto could be solved by the ever-pertinent don't be poor.

Don't like long commutes? Stop being poor and buy in Rosedale.
Don't like the winters? Don't be poor and PJ down the the Bahamas like any other good (non-poor) Torontonian.

And even if we're talking about visiting rather than living, those same things make it an infinitely more interesting place to visit. I spent a little over two weeks out there & Muskoka back in July and then had the misfortune of being out in Invermere last weekend... Fuck, is that ever a sobbering juxtaposition.

Western Canada has always been very try hard.

Toronto is funny in that they think it also doesn’t apply to them

I must have skipped that last sentence in that one post Rage, sorry. Cool beans on the windows, I'm sold.

I have an Uncle that lives in Mississauga, his neighbor is Don Cherry, and I loved TO as a kid and young adult, for all the aforementioned reasons. Later in life, it had a great pool 8/9 ball scene, and a couple really good pipe bands I liked to drop in and practice/play with. Not sure I'd want to live there or in ONT in general, but it is fun to pop in for a couple weeks here and there throughout the year.

I do know if I did live there throughout the baseball season months, I'd be at every game I could. You used to be able to buy nosebleed seats back in the day for cheap, especially for daytime/weekday games, and just move down to empty seats, I never once got stick from the staff there for that, but it's been years, maybe decades since I pulled that stunt.

With excessive resources you could live someplace far better than Toronto.

Well sure, but that doesn't explain the comparison to Cleveland.

And is also doesn't discount the fact that Toronto is able to offer someone as much as they're willing to pay for (aka, just as Raj said, there isn't much you can't get / do if you're willing to spend the $$$)... The same can't really be said for a city like Calgary (or Cleveland )

Well, my comparison was a bit tongue in cheek. But it's probably more accurate than comparing Toronto to NYC, which is a preposterous notion that Torontonians seem to believe. I think it's funny that everyone wants to leave Toronto ASAP on friday and drive in murderous traffic to get to cottage country.

Calgary is a different kettle of fish entirely, and you live here for much different reasons than you would live in Toronto.

Calgary is always ranked as one of the most desirable places to live and I always kind of laugh at it as if the list was compromised of people who aren’t rich or something cuz affordability is cited (not sound like busty or Killy) lol

    2022 Calgary/Vancouver/Toronto are ranked 3rd, 5th, 8th globally.

You missed my nosebleed prices too. $80 for a family of 5, that's 3 kids @ 1/2 price because it was Jr Jays day. They got to run the bases on Sunday which was pretty cool.

I don't think it's marketed well. Either that or people don't like paying that much for nosebleed views. I dunno. It wasn't sold out this weekend, a few rooms down the family there got upgraded to the room for free. The hotels around since day 1, when it was opened in '89. It's older than most of you kids haha. I too just found out about it this year.

I am probably being too hard on Toronto. Every time I'm in town I go to a ball game, and my favorite restaurant in the world is there.
