    Default Pond Leak at Kearl

Old news for some for sure. I'm not involved with IOL much these days but given their reputation and the way they operate (ie: very tight wad on the rules), I'm honestly pretty shocked this has devolved as it has.

Does Imperial have a good reputation?

I did not think imperial had a good reputation. Nearly as bad as Suncor was my impression. But then again, I'm not an oilsands guy.

Yea I’m of the exact same mindset

Same same, but they kill less people than Suncor.

Suncor is actually great, but they've had a horrible string of very bad luck. That, and their amalgamation with SCL has been a quagmire that has perhaps distracted them from some key initiatives.
IOL has been in this game for what - 10 years? That's adorable! If they care about Kearl like they care about their ancient refinery in Edmonton, then we should be investing in chewing gum and duct tape (and drip buckets).

I recall they had a bunch of their shit arrive from Super Number Won South Korea Injuneering Company with literally grey CAULK to disguise where welding didn't happen, but I'm sure they saved dozens of dollars. Oh and wasn't this the place where someone forgot to check that some of their ThyssenKrupp equipment wouldn't fit on the fucking road between their US landing and site? I think it was.
No big's, we'll just cut that 10,000 Tonne live capacity surge bin in half and weld er back together at site!
Sweet superstore gasoline, though! After I buy my Single-A minute steaks I can fill my minivan <100m from the grossery store.

Think the bigger issue is that AER didn’t report it. Leaks happen, but the regulator should be staying on top of it. Burying it was a really dumb

I came across a pipeline leak a couple years back.. damn thing was bubbling for 7 to 8 months. Finally had a chance to get close enough to it during hunting season due to the ground freezing over more to get a closer look.

Sounded like an over flowing stream for a long time... turns out it was a gas pipeline that burst.

Took them a couple months to fix. Highly doubt the AER was informed.

Didn't Shell have a similar issue a number of years ago? Shipped the modules in from Korea only to find out they were too wide to get transport permits so they hacked them in half and rewelded at site.

I like anything that uses the "inland port of Lewiston".

I remember picking that caulk off the handrail 'weld' locations and thinking... you god damn koreans.

They always had 0 recordables or lost time incidents though. Go Korea!

Its not good news, that's for sure. What's bad for one of the mines ends up being bad for the rest of them. The AER's on the defensive (harder to deal with) and the Fed's are using it as an excuse to get more involved. It's also making working with stakeholders more challenging. So basically the 3 groups that I have to deal with
The Ex: 2002 Subaru 2.5RSTi w/ JDM V7 STI Swap, JDM 6-Speed Trans, Dom 1.5XTR, ST Coilovers
The Ride: 2014 Ducati Multistrada S, Tuneboy w/ CC
    Daily: Boring Volvo.

No, I mean I think the govt disbanded them about 4 years ago.
I think the AEP somehow inherited their jurisdiction.

They seem to think they exist at any rate.

Weird. Perhaps it's because the body I had to apply to changed from AER to AEP and I got confused thinking they transitioned across the board.
