    https://nypost.com/2022/09/01/califo...mid-heat-wave/

"California residents are being asked not to charge their electric vehicles to conserve energy amid a brutal heatwave — just days after the state announced a plan to ban sales of new gas-powered cars by 2035."

Can't make this stuff up....such fun times ahead

My dad is there, It asked people to conserve power from 4 to 9pm in general. Turn up AC on temp, avoid cooking and the use unecesary appliances and lights etc.

It had nothing to do direcrly with the EV menace.

    Bzzzzt. Wrong.

It's cause they privatized their grid and gave control to a private company.

    That will end soon.

We have been doing burbs for 60+ years. If anything, WFH got even more people going into burbs but that in itself solves a lot of these commuting problems and emissions.

Lunchtime and Dinner drone deliveries would halve that congestion.

Well you're not going to convince your minions to give up their freedom voluntarily. Have to make it seem like convenience bit by bit.

To be accurate, they don't want people to charge their cars between 4 and 9 pm. As for why its not 11 pm (based on duck curve) I think they determined that as long as the sun has already set, the chances of a pole based transformer exploding due to heat is low - which is more of a problem then max load.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck_c...-10-22.agr.png

Just like the internet, you want to do everything at 2 am, or in Californias case - wait until the sun has set at the very least. All EV's sold nowadays should come with delayed charging features.

With all the solar that California has, it makes counterintuitive sense - but you really want to be charging at night to keep the grid healthy. This will change as more solar is installed.

World Economic Forum suggested car ownership is a bad idea.

Again, I blame Buzz. He burned through that dinosaur juice like it was free money.

At this rate, I think it would be better if California just broke away and joined China.
