Default Nissan brake pads and rotors

I'm looking to replace pads and rotors on our 2016 Rogue. Parts are expensive now!!

    OEM Nissan $921
    Nissan value brand $661

I've previously used Brembo and Powerstop and they're had issues are 2 years. Anyone recommend any other brands for someone doing their own brakes? Is Nissan OEM worth it over the Nissan Value brand?

    Cheers.

I would go to Napa or another parts store to check with them. My guess is they'll be much cheaper. Or even RockAuto.com.

I'm ordering from Rockauto soon. I have some semi-coated Centric rotors and pads in the cart, but willing to hear others recommendations for brands.

$452 for my Infiniti incl shipping

Thanks I just called them as well. $600 for their bottom tier. Not sure if they're good or not.

Rock Auto is my next option - I've never heard of any of their brands before!

Have you measured the rotor thickness to confirm that they're out of spec and need to be replaced? Or are they warped? (Pulsing brake pedal when stopping)

Canadian Tire just had a sale on their mid/upper tier brand that they call OE+. Might be worth pricing those out.
These prices sounds crazy for a Murano!

I have. All the rotors are warped! Only 50k of mostly highway too.

The prices are a bit cheaper but that's what we have now on the Rogue. The quality just wasn't there with the Canadian tire ones.

I would say Canadian tire "house brand" stuff is on par with the cheapest stuff from RockAuto in terms of quality. which isn't a ringing endorsement. The better quality brand name stuff from RockAuto or a "real" parts store like NAPA would be my strong preference.

Thanks, this is really helpful! It leads me back to the Nissan "value" line at the moment.

Have used Centric that had the hubs coated. No complaints on rotor warpage yet.

I know more than a few that don't brake hard enough and glaze the rotor and end up with constant squealing on light braking.

If you're looking to save cost, I would have them machined and continue running them. The shop that resurfaces them will tell you if they're within spec or not as well.

Lot of shops won't machine rotors anymore at all, and if they will, sometimes costs more than new. Worth checking this before you commit to one course or the other.

If I was buying from RockAuto, I'd go with the Raybestos "fully Coated" line for corrosion resistance, just because I am like that. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...+pad+kit,13824

I just bought OE+ pads and rotors and they cost more than the Brembo that Cdn Tire had, so I'm certainly hoping for more than that.
I might return them due to a convoluted, lame story though.

When you install the rotors, make sure the hub surfaces are clean. Just down to bare metal, including around the wheel studs. Roloc disks and wire wheels work well for this. Install the rotor on the hub, hand tighten three lug nuts down to hold the rotor on the hub. Using a dial indicator (a cheap one from princess auto will work) measure the rotor run-out. The max spec for this is 0.035mm. If it is out of spec, take the rotor off and turn it 180 re-install, then measure run-out again. If it is still out of spec, you need to buy better rotors.
If the rotors have too much run-out. The brake pads will hit the high spot and deposit pad material onto the rotor causing a brake pulsation. Highway driving will make this worse. If you are having repeated pulsation problems, the hubs have too much corrosion on them or you are buying too cheap of parts.

I usually just buy the cheapest rotors because they crack before they warp, but that’s a me problem.

^ My brakes squeal but only because its been like 4 years since last set.

I make sure and bed them in nicely when new.
