I'm not with one of the big banks. With an advisor at a smaller firm who has a CFA. 70% stocks, 30% bonds. Decent returns but the 1% fee starts to add up. Just exploring if I can toss money into VBAL or VGRO and pay a .20% MER instead and try it that way.

Not exactly the same situation as you, but I moved my work DC pension with sun life (limited options for funds that my company chose which were around 1% MER) when I quit into a LIRA at BMO. With the cash I bought 60% VGRO, 20% VEQT, 20% NNRG

I’m happy with this new setup overall. Much better to be in full control and have the option of buying low cost etfs
