I hate the "travel" part. Despise it. Put me in a suspended animation chamber and wake me when I'm there.
My wife is the organizer, she does all the planning etc. leading up to a trip, thank god. That would just stress me out.

One you get me to the destination, I'm ok. But I hate airports, security, people, flying commercial... that whole ordeal. I yearn for the pre-9/11 days, which we'll never get back. I haven't yet experienced what post-COVID air travel is like but I'm about to and am dreading it.

    I'm in an airport, LoL!
It seems masks are essentially optional for the most part, until you board.

holy shit this tinnitus is annoying.

I might have to go drown myself in @rage2 's pond if it doesnt go away
Welcome to the club. Have some background music and/or white noise. It may drown it out for you to get used to it eventually. But hope it goes away.

1st year was rough for me too, tho I think I got hearing damage from spending too many hours in server rooms.

Man, started travelling too late but I still remember the time I drop off a Mustang vert at John Wayne Airport and boarded a flight with like 15min left before flight time.

Flying was relatively expensive then but it was a lot less hassle.

biz class of course. But biz class doesn't save you a bunch of time in the process...only creature comforts. Time is a valuable resource...and spending days in airports and on planes cant be replaced.

Biz class of course for the creature comfort benefit, yet he drives a builder grade Ridgeline......

    I don't get it.

I have concluded that Buster really is a miserable boomer based on this thread.
    I like neat cars.

I think overall travel time is longer.

If you leave your house at the same time, I dare say you will get to West Edmonton mall faster driving.

2.5 hours door to door, maybe 2:45 if there is a lot of traffic.

For the flight, it's 24 minutes from my house, probably the same for yours. You have to be there 1 hour before. (1:30 so far)

If you are lucky, the flight pushes back on time and there is 10-20 minutes of taxi time, add 20 minutes of de-icing in the winter. 30-45 minutes flight time cause prop planes are slow (2:30 so far).

Get rental or uber (10 minutes) and then a solid 30-40 minutes from the airport cause YEG is basically in Red Deer. (3-3:30 minutes minimum).

That's onerous. Lounge or not. Then there is the risk of flight delays. I'd rather drive.
If you're going to add de-icing in the winter for the flight you should add an hour for the stop in Red Deer for charging your car in Red Deer

I call bullshit on that. How FAST are you driving?? I live in Beaumont and my parents are in the far NW of Calgary (easy access via Stoney Tr) and THAT trip is maybe 2.5 hrs door to door if I don’t stop in Red Deer for a pee break. (That’s going at an average speed between 125-130)

Normal traffic within Edmonton alone can easily add 20 minutes or more from the south border of the city to WEM.

It sounds like I'm in the minority, but I like sightseeing. I thought walking into the Coliseum in Rome was fantastic, touching the same stone building where gladiators fought and Christians were fed to the lions is so much more than googling pictures and reading about it. I thought I'd hate Stone Henge, but being there is so much more. I'll rock museums all day if given the opportunity. Porsche, BMW museums are top notch for any car guy. Visiting the Nurburgring in person, awesome. Like Inzane, the actual getting there is a pain, but definitely worth it to me.
