Default Which Home Security Should I Use?

    My priorities are:
    • call police on break-in
    • arm / disarm remotely
    • lock / unlock doors remotely
    • monitor cameras remotely
    • camera recording

I have a Vivint system in my house from the previous owner, it has the window connections, door locks, a camera and screen controller. Should I just reactivate it or go with a different company like ADT? I also see a lot of SimpliSafe on YouTube. Any other suggestions?

I don't think any of them call the police anymore, do they? They call a rent-a-cop who drives over slowly and that person call the police after they are certain there's no danger of meeting any criminals.

That's how they all work, right?

ADT got purchased by Telus. Same with Vivint recently.

Triton is good. They will go straight to calling emergency services for certain types of alarms if you want them to.

Window stickers and signs are the only thing that matters.

But instead, go buy a unicycle with a frozen battery and wonder why it's not considered exotic.

Id check with your insurance company to see if they have any sort of discount for certain brands. With Allstate, they gave a discount for using Rogers home Security, basically making all the equipment free.

Then get a reality check on how much of a discount you get overall too. Might be less than you assume, if you were counting on that to offset monthly fees or something.

I have Nest, works great. You can setup parameter zones, notifications, video recordings, live camera, sound and voice, everything.

    Cost per month, zero.

The discount from Allstate covered something like 8 months of service and the equipment/install charge. I was pleasantly surprised.

That won't qualify for a discount on your home insurance though as it is not monitored.

Wish the resolution was better than 1080p on a Nest system. I imagine using Google's algorithms that image recognition/motion is a strong point, but when cameras are pumping out 4K these days, it's pretty dated.

I have a similar setup through with cams from Lorex and a Ring doorbell cam. I like the looks of the NEST interface much better than the Lorex.

Will look into a nest system next time.
