Default Online Doctor covered by AHS - RocketDoctor

Not sure if this should be in Health or Politics section. Anyway, have you guys heard of this online doctor thingy that is fully covered by AHS? I have a family doctor, and they've been doing virtual appointments through the pandemic, which is handy, but aren't sure if those will continue to be funded. Another person in my family who has not been able to find a family doctor has started using something called "rocketdoctor". Sounds sweet. They have a receptionist kind of person who handles intake and screening questions, then you have a virtual appointment with a doctor all on your phone, all covered by AHS. Apparently her prescriptions were at the pharmacy within 45 minutes of the appointment too.

I like my in-person doctors appointments, but more innovative virtual health care options seem like a good thing. Especially for people who live outside cities or who travel for work. Has this been a thing for a while?

    Anywhooo, seems neat, discuss.

We recently added a system called dialogue to our corporate health plan.

Basically no charge we have virtual access for all sorts of stuff with full ability to refer/prescribe. All done on your cell phone / video conference. I think with our corporate plan we get deeper access to different services, even psychological/psychiatric which is nice.

Nice option for situations where time is of the essence and you can’t get in to see your family dr, and should reduce ER/Urgent care visits.

This seems like such a great/ no brainer idea.

    Hopefully reduce ER wait times.

I wasn't even thinking of any benefit to ER usage, but yeah it might help there too. I used to think the after-hours clinic that was part of our primary care network was revolutionary. For a parent of small kids this virtual thing could be really incredible.

Have you tried using Dialogue? Its basically useless. I have tried it a half dozen times and not once have i been able to get anything done successfully. For a simple sick kid they want 58 pictures of the ailment and then tell you that you need to see a doctor anyways. Injury and need an xray? Oh you still need to go in, wont do a referral. Need a new script for something you already have been perscribed like an allergy med? Nope, need to see a doc.

As far as telemedicine is concerned, i've used Maple a bunch of times and its been AWESOME. Christmas day my wife had an iritis flairup. Maple had a prescription to shoppers within 30 mins and i had drops in her eye within an hour of the call.

Or even a prescribing pharmacist. Those are excellent too. Our local one would write me anything save for my TRT renewal (and i understand that completely).

I was told to turn the light on my phone and spread my cheeks, suddenly I had $100 in my account. Is this the same thing?

Not yet. We have only had it a couple weeks.

My doctors office is pretty stellar though so it’s just another tool on the belt.

Telus health is free and covered by AHS for physical health visits. Mental health visits you have to pay for though.

I’ve used it a few times, mostly for basic stuff. It’s pretty decent although lately it’s been harder to find last minute appts since it’s a lot more popular now.

Good Call, I knew there had to be other providers / platforms for this kind of thing.

Telus app says not available in my country. Makes sense. I'm in Canada. No VPN on.

Does Rocket Doctor look at other things other than my pen 15?

Did rocket doctor as I have had trouble finding a good family doctor.
Got the request form I needed and headed to the clinic for the tests.
Downside is I don't think I'll get a call unless something is abnormal.

That's a downside? I'd rather that than waiting in my doctors office for an hour just for him to say "All you results look normal, but try reducing your sodium"

That's usually how tests go - no news is good news.

Log into your myalberta digital account and it has the results of your lab test results.

Sounds like a great option. Family doctor is usually a big time commitment from the patent for very little time with the actual doctor. And that changes the ratio is worth looking into.
My kids and I go to a "teaching clinic" where you often see a resident before your regular doc. Means the appointment is often longer, but there's not a lot of waiting around.

Family doctors were brought up in a different thread, so that got me thinking about the various telemedicine options.

Anyone have new thoughts on the pros and cons? Anyone without a family doctor gonna try it?

I'll add to my virtual doctor consult with rocket doctor.
If you're sent for testing, check your my alberta health account yourself for the report results.
The doctor called me a month later saying he just got the results. So that's a problem.
Check results yourself and rebook next rocket Dr appointment to go over them.
