Man we have very different preferences lol. My daily drivers are Armada tracer 118 CHX with Duke PTs and I find them great for everything from carving ice to full day touring in 50cm of fresh
I'm running bent 100 and 120s for my entire quiver, also have a pair of Corvus freebirds but havent even used them once yet all on Shift bindings. I've thought about getting something more "chargey" but I'm happier in trees and smaller turns so it doesn't really make sense.

Man I had shifts but they were year 1 gen 1 and I hated them. I had prerelease issues and when I was walking if I even touched the brakes together they would go down and I I'd have to reset them.

I saw the PTs in Fernie and I was like Fry - take my money!

    truly!

As I mention, I have and had a few in the quiver, just not of the belief that there is a once ski that rules them all. Boots are also similar... I prefer a 110 with a 23 deg forward pitch for my off piste adventures and a WC type of 130+ and a 17 deg pitch for hammering gates.

As there is nothing like pumping through powdery fluff in some Bents (which I heard the 120s are maybe the best pow ski), there isn't anything quite like going through send and putting GS skis through its radius like Ted Ligerty.

Knock on wood but I've had no issues with my shifts, granted they aren't gen 1 but even touring with them I havent had any of the icing issues either. Now that i've said that I'm probably screwed.

If I could put a set up together now it would most like be on a CAST set up instead, that truly seems like the best of both worlds other than the weight which I've come to accept doesn't really affect me much anymore.

I was looking for a place in the Rockies to board for this weekend. It looked like Fernie had the best snow out of a pretty sad snowfall for most Rocky mountain resorts. We snowboarded both days this weekend at Fernie, the village had very little snow, the base runs were ok, but seemed like it was propped up with man made snow. The middle elevations of the mountain were pretty brutal with many ice patches and not much coverage on small bushes and trees sticking out.

We spent almost the entire day on the White Pass Quad and found nice powder stashes in the trees, pretty amazing how much snow conditions improved at higher elevations at Fernie. It was my first time there, so I'm sure that mountain is awesome during a normal snowfall season.

I’ve probably only been there 10 times and have only had 1’or 2 bad trips.

Lucky for you. Just about every time I’ve chased a storm over there it’s turned to rain and wet pow all the way to polar peak. And when it’s good they can’t get their shit together to open the top of the mountain for days on end it seems.

I rode the lift at sunshine with some folks from fernie, they said they have good snow around December-January but then goes to rain or wet snow around Feb.

Another 10cm this morning between 9-12 at big white today. I wouldn’t be surprise if they shape up to have the best base in Canada this year. Definitely the year to visit if you’ve been thinking about it.

    Sad to hear, RIP.

I’ve been eager to get out into the back/slack country and shred some big lines this year but haven’t because the conditions have been so brutal. Surprised those heli outfits don’t know better than to stick to low consequence terrain right now. Most of the cat places seem to be staying in the trees this year. We decided to give up our baldface seats for the season because the snowpack is so unstable and didn’t want to just do glades the whole time.

Website says 5 cm in last 12 hours and 2 cm in last 7 days?

100% bullshit. They got 15+cm before they cleared this plot at 4pm and it’s already nearing 10 again..

Not sure why they don’t report it accurately, it’s also dumped well over 2cm a few times over the last 7 days.

Sssshhhhhhhh... don't reveal the secret stashes of the Okanagan

How has the fog been up there? Every time my friends or I have been up there it's been heavy fog. What's the secret to avoid the Big White Out?
