Default Tire rotation when you bring them in.

Craptastic thread title I know, but bear with me. My wife prefers to take her tires in to be swapped seasonally ever since I lost a wheel on Deerfoot, fortunately I was doing 80 in the left lane. Kidding aside, when we/I/I load her tires in the car and she has the dealership change them over do they have a way/care to ensure they are rotated properly at the same time? She was told her tires have uneven wear this time and should get an alignment. I know, dealerships say a lot of things.

The place I take mine marks the as "TO XX". Then next spring/fall, they know where to put them.

Pretty sure it's a case of consistently inconsistent because there's no standardized system.

I've seen places that mark the bag.
I've seen places that chalk marker inside the wheel.
I've seen chalk marker on the treads itself.

But then it's a crapshoot as to who puts it back on, looking for this detail.
Also there's no universal system... some places like to mark where the tire previously was installed, some places pre-emptively mark where the next rotation should be installed.

@tirebob can you write an international standard plz?

Mines is always chalk on the tire to keep track.

Given Calgary has pretty shitty roads it wouldn't be a surprise if she needs an alignment depending how old her car is.

On many of my regulars I don't even mark tires because when we put them on the car we are looking at the wear and positioning them best according to how they are, but generally if we are marking tires for a clients preference, we mark the position they came off on the backside of the tire with chalk.

I always mark mine on the tread with the position they will be installed on the next season.

Am I the only one who does this on the inside lip of the rim? I'm not very consistent with the acronyms, but it's not difficult to figure out.

Yeah this is defo just you lol

When I was working for Bob, if there was nothing marked or a particular preference, we'd look at the wear on them before putting them on the clients car

When I take mine off, I loop some flagging tape through a bolt hole that says its former position like "WAS RR" etc.

This is the way. Where they were previously is not of consequence, unless you’re trying to troubleshoot abnormal wear or something.

I prefer just to inspect and measure my tires when mounting and decide from there. I prefer best tires on the front always because oversteer>understeer but would mount them the opposite for a customer or general public.

RWD most tread to the rear cause they wear faster, i try and keep tire wear even...

Always rear, even if it's FWD.

lack of traction to get going > losing traction in the rear at speed.

Plus you most car has most of the weight in the front anyway.
