Studs all the way here, idgaf if my driveway or garage gets scratched and if it's noisy just turn up the radio
The discussion of non-studded feels oddly familiar with all-seasons vs. winter tires. End of the day when you need studs, you'll be happy you have them.

I like studs but would never personally buy Hakkas. Studs also don’t make sense in some situations. I have one car with studs, one with performance winters and one with all seasons currently.
Why anti Hakka? What do you go with instead? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Off topic but anyone know a cheap mount/balance place? Or even a backyard tire mechanic is fine as I have the tires and 15" steelies. Not for my car so trying to do it relatively cheap.
Just not a fan. They aren’t the best at any one thing, but come at a premium price. I’ve tried many different tires in many different situations, one of my all time favourites were the ol Hankook Icebear 300s.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
For the F150 Hakk R3 were less then Toyos.... and cheaper then other options i looked at as well.
I mean testing routinely has them as top picks based on winter performance. To each their own I guess.

Oh I remember the icebears. Was by far the best performance winter tire I’ve used till Michelin got their pilot alpins sorted out. Cold dry days were terrific, and was dirt cheap too. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That said I’ve used several brands of studded and still feel nokians are best of the bunch. I’ve driven in some insanely treacherous conditions in rural bc, pure black ice stretches for 100km and I’m flying thru it above speed limit like it’s nothing. It gives great confidence, and lots of feedback before it lets go. It’s like driving in the rain.
I’ve never used their non studded tires though.

Looking at the actual data, it echos exactly why I hate Hakkas. Average dry and wet road performance at best, not even the best tire under snow or ice braking. Near the bottom for noise too. The only thing the tire excels at is snow and ice handling and acceleration, but a 2mm stud China tire with bigger tread blocks will be faster on snow and ice anyway. I also find Hakkas are among the worst tires for feel and feedback. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Hakkas are great tires for very poor drivers or the average person, but they don’t stack up for someone who gets to test lots of different tires and situations and cares about how the tire interacts with the vehicle in my opinion.
Yeah it's true having sottozero tungsten studs would be better

There’s tires I dislike more than Hakkas for sure, but I just don’t see why everyone acts like they are the be all and end all of winter tires.
Given your experience, what would be a few suggestions instead of the hakkas?
