Did you end up trying these? I was going to get Hakka 10 EVs for the Model S, but I would prefer a non-studded option if it's close and the longevity is better. [Edit: just realized the xice north are also studded, I was thinking of xice snow). This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I live in Alaska now, and there are a shit ton of moose that cross the roads whenever they want, often at night, so I'm optimizing for slamming the breaks on short notice. And obviously the car is heavy as hell, so your experience with Nokian studs and heavy cars is interesting. I do have Studded Hakka 9s for the truck that are a few years old, and thought it seemed like it was getting a little weak, but I can never tell if it's just in my head and if any other tire would have done better.
Woah, that's a big move! And much colder haha

Yeah haha, I am in the Anchorage area and still coastal, so it’s not nearly as cold as some parts of AK, and not as cold as Edmonton. I needed to get as far away from WA as possible and we decided to give it a try last March It’s been interesting
I actually was going to post asking if anyone had a copy of that European winter tire test that used to get posted here. Is that guy still around? I remember that being pretty thorough.
I've heard some very good things about anchorage. Neat place.

Honestly anchorage is not nearly as clean as I thought. We figured out pretty quickly that we didn’t want to live in Anchorage proper, but it’s nice to have the convenience of a city within driving distance. They seem to have a lot of drug zombies like many cities these days. I am curious how they’ll do in the winter now that the emergency covid shelter is gone. The mayor offered them plane tickets to the lower 48 and caused outrageThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There is a dead moose counter along the highway tracking how many cars have killed moose, and before it got reset for the year, it was averaging over 1 per day for the year. Have had a few close calls already
I think a Finnish magazine usually puts out the review but this has some good info

Damn, so Hakka 10 EV are about $1000 USD more than what Kal Tire is showing and X Ice North 4 don’t even exist in the US, only shows on the .ca website and not on any retailer website. Usually it’s Canadians who get screwed on pricing/availability, guess it’s our turn!
Why get away from WA?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I’ve tried all the big names and to this day I’m most happy with Toyos
Amazing traction in snowy conditions, fairly quiet, and handle good enough.
Have them on the M5 & the SUV
Hakkas for ballers
Next up blizzaks ws90

I’m going Motomaster winter edge for my daily run around this year.
They’re candian tire house brand but made by Cooper. They’re switching to Kumho next year so this years stock is being blown out.
$100 per tire for 205/60r/16. These days it’s cheap.
6 year warranty, too.

Got a second set of studded Continental XTRM for the other Cayenne. Should be a good upgrade over the Toyo G3's that were on before.
Have the same on AWD. Similar experience and they seem to last longer than X-ice or blizzaks. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

$154 each for my wifes van. Probably a pretty good deal.

Ordered wheels/tires from 1010tires but now really nervous. Their online site said these 17x6.5's fit my car but looking on forums people keep parroting that 17's don't clear the brakes except 1 person that posted a photo saying their random set fit just fine. Not sure if it's just clueless people repeating one persons issue or what. 1010 says they have a fit guarantee but past experiences with other companies 'guarantees' give me little faith and wondering if I should cancel my order.
