Nowhere did it say decades or hundreds of years as you did. Sorry, just like Kill, you get caught being an idiot and try to backpedal and move goalposts. I didn't say anything about tactical or strategic, so you can take that red herring elsewhere.

You know the only difference between a “tactical” nuke and a strategic nuke is range?
Well, and yield, which is the important bit. Wide range between a Davy Crockett and a Tsar Bomba.

There is a book from my childhood that might prove to be a good read as this topic brings it to mind.

It’s called War Day by James Kunetka and Whitley Streiber. It’s written in the early ‘80s, but it’s a relatively realistic take on how the United States would handle the consequences of being the victim of a nuclear attack. Two survivors who were once journalists decide to document their experiences travelling throughout the country 5 years after a nuclear exchange. It is an interesting read and worth spending a few bucks getting a copy online.

    https://www.google.ca/search?q=war+d...7RjKqS8s3IbVGM

In all honesty, the average citizen living anywhere near a major metropolitan city will be screwed. Any survivor will also have to wrestle with the reality of how far they are willing to go to survive. Power, food, fuel and supplies will not be as easy to obtain after such an incident. We have already seen evidence of how human nature will react and break down based on supply chain issues as a result of COVID-19. People were fighting in grocery stores over toilet paper.

No man is an island, no matter how macho some people pretend to be. Single individuals can survive long term with the right skills and training - no question.. but mental health issues would settle in and only the strongest and toughest of individuals can manage the long term effects of isolation and loneliness - not to mention lack of medication, antibiotics and medical supplies for physical issues. You can also never underestimate the strength and resourcefulness of a large group of desperate, hungry, unskilled group that wants.. no - NEEDS - your supplies in order to survive.

People need at the very least a small community of individuals possessing varied skills relying on each other in order to survive. Gas goes bad, processed and canned foods eventually expire, and medication eventually lose their effectiveness. Someone is going to have to work on what to use when those resources run out. Without functioning utilities, living in what remains of a large city post-nuclear strike would be dangerous at best and suicidal at worst. So heading out to the country is a relatively sensible choice. But if there are survivors, so is everyone else. If you stumble on a farm or cabin in the woods (or even if you personally own one), chances are it might be occupied by someone else who beat you there or the actual owners. Are you willing to do what it takes to take it from them in order to survive? In these situations I seriously doubt property rights would be respected, and possession would be 9/10ths of the law.

Then there is the issue of your skill set. Even if you found an abandoned farm, are you capable of running or operating one to the point of sustaining yourself? Farming isn’t as simple as many people believe it to be. How to operate farm equipment and what to use when you don’t have the fuel or electricity to run them aren’t available? Do you know what seeds to plant and when? The germination periods of various products? What’s required for their consistent maintenance and growth? How much water or fertilizer is required to care for various foods? How to generate power, test for safe water sources, forage and store supplies safely? Repair broken equipment? When to harvest? The list goes on.

I don’t proclaim to be an expert, but I think we can all agree that any sort of post-nuclear exchange survival would be very difficult indeed alone - or even with a group of skilled individuals with a common goal. Let’s not forget the power and strength of modern day nuclear weapons (or even 30+ year old nuclear weapons) compared to when several countries were testing heavily from the 1940’s through to the 1970’s. Someone had also mentioned the use of Cobalt weaponry, which would compound matters substantially if used!

We haven’t even touched based on the impacts of EMP, radiation, fallout, what the weather conditions were at the time of attack, and so on. The right winds could make large swathes of farmland unusable or unharvestable, thereby compounding the food issues. It certainly is a lot to think about though! Food for thought.

I'm going to go wherever zenops and tomabimmer are. The Russians would never waste a nuke on those two.

I don’t think Russia has operational nuclear weapons. They are all bark, no bite.

    Kind of like Hawaii.

I wonder if in demanding Russia give land back, the USA will start to set an example.
