I don't think Treliving did a particularly bad job in his attempt to make this franchise a contender. Many were praising him about retooling on the fly after key players left the club, but I don't think many predicted the stars he brought in would have all regressed so quickly. Unfortunately, if they don't settle in and play like they can to start next season, that's a lot of contract to be paid for quite a few years. Bit of a potential rock and hard place scenario now. Even IF these guys played to their potential this season, the one mistake I think Treliving made was signing older players for so long. I understand that on the UFA market, overpayment is common. But get real - Huberdeau isn't going to get much better and will start regressing soon if he hasn't already, and I don't expect Kadri to ever reach 87 points again in his career. It was a quick-fix lineup, and I'm afraid the Flames are going to end up paying for it for a very long time...
