Default Hockey Options in Cowtown - lots to choose from!

So now that the Flames AHL team has moved to Calgary, there is even more hockey available to watch. What's your thought on WHL Hitmen vs AHL Wranglers in terms of fun and affordable entertainment? I hear both teams will play a few games at the seven chiefs sportplex as well, how is that rink for the fan experience?

Clearly NHL Flames are the top dogs. I like getting out to a few games a year, but good to have options particularly for kids.

Anyone want my Hitmen tickets for Sunday for free? You can report back on the quality.

The Calgary Canucks games are good banter too...or would you rather give Murray Edwards your money?

If I know anything about Murray Edwards… he will get your money in any case.

Might as well have fun while you are at it.

Okotoks and Brooks have been lighting up the AJHL for several years. Worth considering the short drive to see the Oilers in Okotoks.

    Can confirm

You can also get beer and don't have to stay in one seat the whole game

AHL is more entertaining then WHL in my opinion.

this is cool with farm team here. Otherwise I never pay attention to the minors.

I've watched the Heat play in Stockton. It's a much faster game than the WHL. Will be curious how they price the games here against the Hitmen.

Single game tickets go on sale in a few days, but supposed to be $33-$97 a seat, which is a lot more than hitmen. Unfortunate, but makes sense that pro hockey costs more than amateur, I guess.

Technically WHL is pro too. They get paid, just not much. They're considered pro by other leagues. WHL is just jr hockey, I think you get the boot after you turn 21. AHL you have grown men that are almost good enough for NHL playing, or actual NHL'ers using them to condition.

AHL is way better hockey than WHL, but WHL is a bunch of young kids skating their hearts out, so depends what you want to see.

Seven Chiefs is an amazing rink as far as what it's typically used for, minor hockey and beer league.

Here's how I would rank Calgary rinks by viewing experience -

    A - Saddledome
    B - Winsport / Seven Chiefs
C - Max Bell / Father David Bauer

I think "pro" and "paid" are not the ideal terms, here.
    See Portland Winterhawks.

I think ncaa considers WHL as professional when it comes to determining eligibility. But yea, those guys get paid, just not very well at all.

WHL considers themselves amateur to be able to pay the players less than minimum wage.
