    Default New to PayPal

    I’m selling a set of M6 wheels.

Limited interested locally but there’s a guy who reached out to me through M5board looking to buy. Guy offered me $US1600 including shipping (Purolator quote $C500). I declined first but now I’m thinking it’s decent offer considering recent US$ strength.

He proposed PayPal for payment. I believe the way it works is a) he gives me his email b) I send him a payment request c) he funds the request d) I ship items e) I load tracking number f) he gets shipment and payment is released and shows up in my account.

Anyone sees any issue with this? Could he cancel his side of process once he has funded the request? Or once items show up? Or he just changes his mind?

Despite so much scamming with PayPal I've had really good luck, most people are honest. Track everything you're doing really well, take lots of photos, get a signature upon delivery.

The biggest scam is the buyer saying you sent 4 boxes of rocks and you scammed him. PayPal usually favours the buyer and now you're out the shipping cost plus the rims.

Do your DD with the user too: have they been active for awhile, have they traded before. I think emails with PayPal you can check the user associated with it and query how long they've had PayPal, if they're Verified, etc.

End of the day there is risk. Trust your gut and do your DD.

Offer an alternative payment option and see if he jumps on any alternatives. PayPal favors the buyer so super high risk. PayPal is the scam everyone wants to use.

If the buyer has zero alternative payment options than you know he's wanting to scam you.

Let him know your sister lives in his city and she'd be happy to deliver the items personally.

more Importantly search your tires in a city near him to see if anything is available closer to home... if there is than why is he reaching out to you?

    What if he says sure?

Worse yet, what if they meet and end up having a baby?

Look, you are talking to the guy who sold a shitty truck to a dude who flew in from Ontario. I know a lot about sketchy deals.
But I guess that one worked out. Hell maybe the baby will be cute?

    I recommend the reverse scam.
Let him know you'll have a broker come pick up a certified cheque. Pay said broker 10% of the total. Make sure you contact the broker via written letters (with your left hand) and have them ship from a PO box registered to an LLC in the Caymans.

Then you ship him a box full of rocks.

If he's dishonest, you'll be giving him a set of wheels for free, no recourse.

So your call here is on his integrity and your risk tolerance.
I can eat more hot wings than you.
