Just doing my CPD submission for the year. Man the system take a lot more information than it used to in the past. Actually kind of a pain in the dick. I don't normally keep really detailed records, but maybe I should have been.

My only recommendation with the new system is add items as you do them through the year. from that perspective it’s actually palatable. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I hate that they make you provide names and contact info for mentees now. I always used able to layer some points in there but putting peoples names to it puts me off mentoring.
Gonna suck for EIT’s when they cross reference that with applications.

EIT 's have now been replaced by cheap labour in Nanjing and Mumbai, so this problem has solved itself. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
did mine last week.. wtf. Seems like it is only going to get worse.
Do be fair, relatively speaking to other professions, our CPD is kindof a joke. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We had it way too easy for way too long. And frankly most engineers are useless

I'm going to not fill out my CPD anymore because I'm angry at how APEGA handled the fatalities at CNRL in 2007. That's my way of protesting, even though it might seem that there is no tenable connection...
Then I'm going to go completely BertStare.jpg on LinkedIn and threaten anyone who disagrees with me.

Can't claim any hours for mentoring folks that directly or indirectly report to you anymore it seems. That's a crock of shit. It's not in my normal duties to be a mentor, it's over & above, but because they report to me I can't claim that time.
Like I said. It’s going to be rough trying to get work experience approved for PEng applications

Just claim it anyways. The chances they audit this are miniscule, and if they do, then just tell them the person(s) you mentored left the company or something. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
APEGA can suck a bag of dicks.
In a general and non specific sense, I suggest that every employed P. Eng. Can be creative enough to claim the max hours every year. I don't see anything in this process that makes that impossible, just may take slightly more moments to "search your records".

Anybody practicing in BC would've seen this same system (albeit different requirements) earlier this summer. EGBC only requires 20 non-practice hours and provide far more on-demand online courses than APEGA does. Double lose here but slightly less lose by EGBC. The mentoring thing is super annoying as well. There is a level of support required to be provided to EITs by any permitted company but IMO what I classified as "mentoring" in the past was well outside of the scope of the company's obligations and much more in line with what the EITs would receive from an outside mentor. There certainly can be some conflicts of interest (company vs. employee) but those issues are easy to discuss in an honest manner without being prejudicial by simply outlining options, etiquette, and professionalism.
Didn’t feel like starting a new thread.
But noticed some hilarious rheee about this on LinkedIn this week. “Tech” people grumpy they can’t call themselves engineers again lol
