Nope, my turkey got cancelled yesterday as well. It won't renew again at end of cycle. Email was the exact same with different country and end date.
Same. How's everyone handling? New email, rejoin fam members and can reuse same cc #? Or does that not work and need some google gift cards?

I don't think I'm cut out for life abroad anymore. I side loaded SmartTube onto Firestick and will use that on my main floor TV.
PCs are covered by UBlock for now.

Adguard has been perfect for me the last few years on YouTube as well. I forget they even have ads until I try watching the odd thing on a work device.

Speaking of YouTube ads, I dialed up YouTube through the Roku interface on my tv, and it has 2x the ads of the YouTube app on my phone. Fuckers. Made it pretty unpleasant.

Use an IP address from a different country and pay less.

As someone who is a Youtube creator I don't give two shits about ad blocking. The amount of ads is insane and becomes really obnoxious and there are plenty of people out there watching Youtube racking in that ad revenue.

I run pihole and ublock origin and refuse to pay for more subscription services just to be ad free... and lets not kid ourselves.. Youtube is about to change their plans and so they are just becoming annoying

Yeah I find it's especially bad on Roku devices. As soon as I click on a video, I'll get two ads before my video starts and usually one more about a minute or two into the video, followed by an ad after the video (followed by another ad before the next video). You can't cut it off with pi-hole either because the ads go through the same source as the video, it's an all or nothing deal.

I really like the Roku interface. But the adverts are wildly more annoying than the youtube app.

I'm noticing ads are getting longer and less skippable.

Yeah just watching Youtube on Roku now.

Video starts with 30 seconds of ads you can't skip, then the video plays for a minute, then gets interrupted by another 30 seconds of ads you can't skip.

Edit: On here's a new one. I paused the video to type this and on the pause screen there's an ad.

Edit 2: Same video. Another 30 second ad 7 minutes in. Video is 11:51 running time.

Youtube will ruin itself or be overtaken.
Shocked how society has sort of been stagnant with this now.
I'm sure it's the big comp taking out competitors before they even get a foot hold now.
Otherwise instagram and youtube would be overthrown.

It's a classic pattern of the largest tech companies, buy the leading competitor in the space, stop innovating, harvest cash. Microsoft and google are great at this.

TikTok and X isn't paying anyone like Youtube is. It's still top destination for creators who wants to get paid.

Well considering you basically have 2 major Giants.. Google and Meta.. you can't really get away or have much competition.

So we can say no and try to find alternatives which don't exist or suck it up and deal with it.

Youtube is not easy to get money from unless you are either extremely lucky or end up being someones shout out. It takes a VERY long time to make any money from Youtube now.

There isn't an Youtube alternative at all. TikTok tries but it's tough even without all the geopolitical headwind. And at high interest rate environment, no VC will be stupid enough to fund a Youtube competitor.

Heck, I don't think Twitch has made a dime yet for Amazon.

There is a Youtube alternative but they have choosen not to be a giant company yet and still sort of in a "what do we want to be" type setup. Its called Floatplane and became a side project through Linus Media Group and ran by Luke.

Yeah, that's funded by his Youtube empire and still cost what $5/mth?

Youtube family plan cost less than that (per user count).

I'm sure Linus has said that thing doesn't make a dime and it's just insurance policy against Youtube going south. Nor does he think he's fight youtube in scale.

Youtube family plan is $22.99 a month with 5 users .. so that works out to $4.5 per month/user. If Floatplane costs $5 per month/user that is 50 cents extra to get ad free and never deal with that crap.

But as its Floatplane it doesn't have the market grab such as Youtube so you don't get it on things like your Roku units and such.

So I pay less to youtube to watch 90% of LTT stuff with no ads and everything else with no ads?

Like I said, just like the LTT Store, he is just cashing in on fandom. It's not a legit competitor.
