Good read on the Act from some constitutional lawyers.

    https://thehub.ca/2022-12-01/opinion...onstitutional/

TL;DR: Nothing in the Act is obviously unconstitutional, it just calls for legislatively-backed non-enforcement of federal directives, which is already an acceptable action for provincial governments - the Act just defines the process. The Henry VIII clauses are actually less controversial than those already affirmed as constitutional recently by the Supreme Court.

It's nice, because it leverages the fact that there's no fucking way in hell Quebec will ever accept a unitary gov't structure.

Can you imagine being a lawyer, and then specializing in constitutional law? Just try and duplicate the thought process of that career choice!

I'd imagine it's a major plus if you want a spot on the Supreme Court. Fairly aspirational.

With Sask moving towards simliar legislations or Acts, the two provinces should just merge into one super-province.

We will cut the provincial sales tax and Alberta gets access to our potash and great western brewing. A Edmonton-Saskatoon-Regina-Calgary-Edmonton bullet train network can be built to avoid the WJ or AC puddle jumpers. Manitoba will eventually beg to join and boom, one step closer to cutting ourselves from Ottawa.

So all Saskatchewan has to offer is a soil nutrient our farmers don't need, because like Saskatchewan our soils are abundant in potassium. A mediocre brewing company, of which we are already abundant. And in exchange, Saskatchewan will drop their PST because Alberta will be subsidizing their budget to allow them to?

Not quite 'Art of the Deal' stuff.

...is the implication here that potash-based fertilizer can only be used within the borders of the province that produces it? They do make money selling it abroad, yeah?

So Alberta will share it's $28B in oil and gas royalty revenue to get a sweet stake of the $300M in potash royalty revenue?

    What a deal.

I'll take that as a "yes", then.

Sask is around $20B in O&G revenues and about the same, per capita, of lifted bro trucks. Don’t forget about unrestricted access to La Ronge and Uranium City. We may or may not have already enriched uranium….for protection.

Lately, on the Internet: Person who took half-joking suggestion of provincial amalgamation centered around beer and bullet trains way too seriously accuses someone else of not being "calm".

You included PA in the loop? Not sure if ballsy or generous.

$20B in revenues but less than a billion in royalties. Not worth getting out of bed for Alberta.

So not much for deals there. However I am interested in what you can offer in terms of Moose Jaw locals who claim to have a parent/grandparent who met Al Capone.

The PA branch line will be phase 3 of the project. The "Squared Circular Triangle" portion is phase 1.
