Since Canada's version of "democracy" is not functional, any machinations employed by the provinces can't create a non-democratic situation. We're already there.

The only pathway forward for Canada is to create a constitutional crisis that results in a re-formatting of Confederation or a drastic change in how it is interpreted. There are many way to get on this pathway, this is just one of them.

None of this is ideal.

But you either live in a functioning democracy, or you do not. Given the nature of Confederation, we do not. Smith is not to blame for that.

I've always said that a more ideal version of democracy would be selecting a dictator to a 4-year term. That gives them the rope to either get shit done and see how the people like it, or the rope to hang themselves.
It would motivate all these lazy fucks to actually vote and to punish the previous regime if it impacted them.
