    Default Inflationary Pay Bump?

Just curious if you're working for a company, did they give you or is planning an inflation pay raise?

Cost of living raises generally happen at start of year. I would guess most people will be waiting till 2023 when companies have a better handle on how permanent or temporary this inflation is. I think I saw Shell do an 8% one time "bonus" for employees to offset this year.

Yah they got a one time wage inflation adjustment of 8%. Heard some folks in the sands, not sure which company, didn't get a wage inflation adjustment. Instead they got a cash bonus... $30k. Taxed of course.

When I was a team member instead of a manager, I often wondered why it was that during major inflation years I saw absolutely nothing in regards to extra compensation through my entire career. Essentially, being loyal to one company ended up a money loser in such years.

Fact is, when inflation like this hits, the business is *already* hit with increased expenses. Then on top of that, they are expected to provide a cost of living increase to help reduce the strain of inflation to their employees? I mean, it's a great gesture and I'd love to give every one of my employees a raise, but I'm not sure that's realistic for most businesses.

Can confirm Shell did 8% across the board.
Other O&G company I know did 5%.Hardly an inflation adjustment and more of a "please don't you all quit" move.

Are GenX in the driving seat on wage negotiation now?

Boomers just finished quitting and Millennials are flakes.

I changed from a contractor to employee at the same job earlier this year with a pay bump+OT+bonus vs just a straight hourly wage, kinda counts I guess.

Performance outcomes, bonuses and raises for the year are getting released soon, and I anticipate a ~15% bump in base pay. A normal year we get 7-10% though, so only a small premium is attributed to inflation/hot market.

Fornicate my life. Only just got back on 5 days pay a week, and I don't expect the remaining 15% pay cut I got in 2020 back anytime in the next year.

The Shell thing was a one time 8% bonus. Not an 8% increase to base salary. Shitty thing for the secondees that went to LNG Canada is they weren’t eligible for it.

If it makes you feel better, I figure my company lost about a million in revenue due to the last couple of years.

I wonder if my company will switch me to hourly.
That in and of itself would likely result in a 100% pay increase.
