Personally speaking, as a % of total comp, I would agree it's peanuts... but to say it's not meaningful is a bit gauche, if nothing else. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

In fact I just finished filing my corporate taxes for this calendar year and my accountant asked me how much I wanted to allocate to my personal salary.
Great thing about owning your business.
Then the rest stays in your corp and you pay corporate income tax. Not the worst thing at all, but be aware you're paying the taxman one way or another and the rates are set so that there's very little advantage to keeping it as retained earnings. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Anything up and above is discretionary.
THAT is how a contract works.
If you've so poorly negotiated your agreement that you haven't accounted for raises/ bonus' that's on you.
Again, its business leave your emotions at the door.
^ I think you guys are agreeing on everything but getting hung up on being grateful?

Unless you've totally maxed out your RRSP, TFSA and have whole life insurance, there is no reason to park any material amount of money in your corp. Sure you can invest it but it's no better than investing it yourself.
I suppose as long as your SO has no shares in the corp it's a place to keep money from her if you get divorced.

Well you still can't allocate more than your business revenue to your personal salary. So no, you can't choose your pay. But you can definitely hustle harder in an attempt to create more income, but you're still limited by the number of hours in a day. You're still essentially enslaved like most hourly employees. Although a smart realtor is exposed to an industry that does offer potential to beat the Matrix if you're smart outside of actually being a realtor.
There's a million reasons to keep the money in your corp and not pay 40% tax on it. And there is certainly no benefits at all to paying 40% on it, and THEN using what's left to invest personally. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
So pay corp rate and then invest pay cap gains and then pay out as income. That certainly sounds better.
