Default Refinishing hardwood? Anyone had this done?

We have hardwood in good shape but we are going to reno the kitchen and we'd like to update the hardwood with a more 2022 color instead of the orange-ish color we have.

Does anyone have recommendations on who does this? Is it worth doing, or better/more cost effective to replace it. Thank you sirs.

We did it over a decade ago, went with a much brighter stain and are happier with it than the orange-ish color like you probably have. At the time it was around $3500 for stripping 1100 sq.ft and 4 coats of new stain.

My only regret is being convinced to use a water based stain, rather than oil based, by the flooring re-finisher. After a decade with the water based one, it looks overall worse than 4 decades of the original oil.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

I used Hatton's Hardwood. Can't say anything bad about my experience with them.
Honest guy, laid out the options and really didn't care one way or another what I chose. He could replace, refinish or carpet over it.

If it’s finished in place (I.e., old school hardwood), definitely refinish. It will be a lot of work to replace it and you’ll end up with something of lesser quality unless you spend a ton more than it would cost to just refinish. Plan on $3-6/sqft for refinish cost.

This. Site finished hardwood is the good stuff. When we reno’d our place 7-8 years ago, we refinished the original hardwood and also had the guy extend the hardwood into the front entry, ensuite bathroom and into the kitchen after walls were removed. All of those spots were originally linoleum.

We also had the guy come back and do a repair last month where something spilled and wrecked the finish in the kitchen. It perfectly matches and you can’t tell where the repair was done.

I’ll pm his contact if you have site finished hardwood.
    I like neat cars.

Thanks guys that helps. These are the original floors I'm pretty sure. I'm sure my main floor is under 1000sqft so it might be worth looking into.

Anyone have pics of their hardwood refinished? I need to do this too as I did this a while back - but yeah, the water based finished didn't last so here we go again. Thanks.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.
