Default NASA plans to go back to the moon

Artemis I was successfully launched last night.
    https://www.nasa.gov/artemisprogram

Artemis 1, officially Artemis I, is an ongoing uncrewed Moon-orbiting mission, the first spaceflight in NASA's Artemis program, and the first flight of the agency's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the complete Orion spacecraft.
Artemis II is planned for May 2024, with a manned lunar flyby, and Artemis III is planned for 2025, with a manned lunar landing, the first time an Astronaut has been on the moon since 1972.

I'm currently reading "American Moonshot" and it's a really fascinating insight into the original space missions and the political climate at that time.

    I agree with the sentiment.
I read a similar book years ago. It gave insight to the Mercury program and the problems the astronaughts and scientists faced. The skill of the test pilots, how they came close to dying so many times in orbit and how cool they were under pressure.
Stuff from that era is really fascinating.

Still have to do it with human onboard to be comparable to 50 years ago. At least it didn't blow up (1 in 23 chance still applies).

Then it will be adequate to say that GenZ has caught up to Boomers. And when that is done, we can finally move forward with actual progress. If it is not doable, then I won't knock GenZ, its not always possible to have progress at all times in all fields.

If the internet progressed as fast, we would still be on 300 bit modems.

TV box also said they want to get a woman and person of color to the moon. White astronauts not need to apply.

I’m personally quite alright with the new world order where the women and coloured folk do all the work and white men can relax and enjoy their lives.

    Or am I misunderstanding something?

Never understood the "superiority" mentality of NASA myself. All being first gets you is "ego", sometimes at extreme cost, materially and even morally if you have to lie. Its Nazi, if you have to start excluding people even if they can move science forward.

The way I see it, it forces young white males in the USA to prove themselves to be considered "ego worthy" of which the older generation can always hang over as "experience". Which can be a good thing, as you simply cull all the young white males that do not meet this standard (which is all of them) with 1/1000th the wages of a rap singer. MIT grad hasn't put a man on the moon yet? Zero chance of six digit wage. And maybe that is the exact point of it all, farmer aspires to be astronaut, astronaut makes less than hot dog stand owner.

Buzz got standard military pay for his role, which does make me think that Buzz was a little bit communist.

Its mildly similar to how a male NBA player makes 100x more than a female NBA player (all sports really), but instead of gender - it is mostly generation based.

Did old white male america setup young white male america to fail? You tell me.

But if a single Artemis blows up on launchpad, I'd question the greater sanity of any young aspiring astronaut of any race or gender. In order for this Artemis launch to be "successful" It still has to make an orbit around the moon come back and make it through the atmosphere intact (which is not agiven, even though it never has anywhere near the stresses of a craft that has to slow from mach 22 to zero and then liftoff again) It should be back on Dec 11th.

    Just Stop NASA?

I respect an engineer that can figure out a way to use 12 watts of power to move one human along the ground for a distance of one mile. With 8 Billion people it for sure will be a more valuable patent than any rocket technology. 100x maybe 10,000x more valuable than any propulsion rocket technology, that arguably will mostly be used to cause mass death.

BTW: A young Chinese male is not a fail according to NASA. Young Chinese males are simply considered ineligible to enter because of pre-disposition to theft. Like how the USA still sees black people. Realistically, its just a cover so that old white america gets to keep 0.49% of all the freshly printed money that the USA prints every year. Which is realistically, just theft right from the source.

    Comrade Buzz!

I will say though: After 50 years and probably just under a million larger than six foot propulsion rockets made, its nice to have it return to the idea of not being tipped with explosives.

Modern rocket propulsion having a near 100 year history as a Nazi invention *cough*.

    As for Specs:

RS25 engine is supposed to be 15% greater thrust than the Saturn V. Not neccesarily greater efficiency, just pure brute force. Still, it should allow for 30 decayed orbits around the moon, if they wished to do so.

If they have green across the board, they may go for as many orbits as fuel allows for. Realistically if they even have the tiniest of error warnings - they may just do one orbit, call it a day and come back. Of course noone knows for sure how many orbits Artemis will do, except NASA.

Why go to Disneyland to drink half a cola and come back if you can stay a while?

Gotta admit, even I'm thinking it might be possible.
