Most cars have the high beam off when oncoming cars are detected. The cool ones have the spot beaming, so everything is lit except for black squares where other cars are ahead of you. For you it feels like high beams are always on.
Now that sounds like fantastic tech.

The problem is that there is an "OFF" setting and the DRLs still operate. All newer cars past the mid 00's have auto head lights by law but they have to be swtiched into auto. These dummies either switch them manually and forget or just never put it on auto in the first place. They can still kinda see because DRL's but there is no tail lights.
haha also doesn't help them since their gauge cluster/instrument panel is lit up like the sun and they think the lights are on cuz of that

It's 100% the switch to display-based gauge clusters, they are backlit so the driver never has that mental leap of "I can't see my gauges, oops I need to turn my headlights on".

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

solution: rear DRLs, lol. Call your MP and tell them to get on it!

I've given up on cycling my lights to alert dumbasses.

I'm thinking a lot of them have their DRL disabled as well.
Crazy how long it took to make automatic headlights standard. My 25 year old GM has auto lights

Its always been a thing on higher end Japanese cars. I've seen it personally as early as 1992. But I don't know where it started.

I'm gonna guess it was a Toyota thing in 1988 with the LS400.
