Not sure “chill” is a word I’d use to describe any muslim country.

I heard they don't allow kids in planes, though.

Yet, you'd have more freedoms in many Muslim countries than in current-day Canada.

As Islam countries goes, Indonesia is quite moderate and they are trying to keep it that way.

People who subscribe to the same pop culture as us is fine in my books.

That said, Chinese resentment is ramping up again there after COVID and Chinese businesses taking over the country again doesn't help. That's how the 1998 riot happened.

There are Christian churches and Synagogues in most Muslim countries... Non-Muslim women aren't treated any differently from men in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, etc. and are probably safer than they are in Canada or the US. I'm not saying there aren't any cultural restrictions but I definitely feel I have more freedom in Dubai, for example, than in Canada. Though I guess if what's most important to you in life is being able to identifiy with a Sex of "X" in your Passport or identify with 16 different Gender pronouns then Canada is your place...

Bali is mostly Hindu, thus its "party influencer" vibe compared to the Muslim islands.

    What freedoms would those be?

Like if you were to go to Ottawa with a “Trudeau is a murderer, Christianity is a cancer, the Prince is a pedophile” sign and stand outside parliament do you think you’d lose your freedom sooner or later than with an equivalent sign in Qatar, SA, or many Muslim countries?

And would your idea of what these freedoms are be universal through the country, or is it from the lens of an expat, who are given much more freedoms than the average resident in these countries?

There are lots of examples to cherry pick of less freedoms like protesting the government(not that it's particularly allowed in Canada anymore either), public displays of affection, pregnancy out of wedlock, etc.) but generally you're more free to start a business, enjoy nature (wild camp, dune bash), modify vehicles, fish & hunt, and most importantly, choose where your money goes. Hell, in Dubai you can even go to a Weekend "Drunch" - basically an all-you-can-drink party.

Safety, education, and healthcare are also often much better.

"The lens of an expat" is the average resident in these countries. The local Muslims typically obey by Islamic traditions - just like Christians, Sikhs, Muslims, Hudderites, etc. do in Canada.

Yea, there are a lot of migrant workers who have tough lives but if you speak with them, as I often do, most of them are happy to be there because they have more opportunity (i.e. freedom) than they do at home.

I'm not saying Middle Eastern Countries are better than Canada or vice-versa, but I do think if you're criticizing them for not being "chill" then you need to open your fucking eyes as to how "not chill" Canada has become.

Canada is -35 to this level of "chill":

Honks to celebrate Iran exit from world cup. shot dead.
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...world-cup-exit

I disagree that "the lens of an expat" is the average resident in these countries. Upper class at the very least considering that migrant workers are a large part of residents in Qatar for example. If you want to change that to "the lens of the migrant worker" is the average resident; is a statement I'd more readily entertain.

I'm not saying "Iran" is an example of chill. Nor Saudi.

Expats are migrant workers. Not sure what you're saying...

Just a current example of a muslim country that has less freedom to honk.

An expat is foreign worker with a cushy job/lifestyle and the ability to leave on vacations or return home to an equally cushy lifestyle. Migrant workers are people near refugee status that are leaving their country for survival and willing to do anything.

And the Taliban Republicans just banned abortion via a technicality.

Catholics still bans premarital sex and blow jobs.

I’ve been to 6/24 of the countries listed in google as “Muslim”, and I didn't count it as passing through the airport terminal, this is from spending a few days to months in country. From my experience, I would not classify them as chill or freer compared to Canada.

A cursory look shows pretty similar restrictions to what we have. Need permits, limited seasons, need business licenses, restrictions on window tint, etc. 'Cherry picking' some pretty basic freedoms for a tradeoff of what, exactly? By 'many Muslim countries' are we just talking about the UAE?

Muslims have more rights in Israel than they do in Muslim countries.

Probably time to tap out, davidI. The backpedaling is only making it worse. We all post/say dumb shit from time to time.
