Default Instrumentation nerds - simple outputs - ELI5

Hey anyone know how easy it is to have live reading or periodic export from a data recorder/controller of this type?
    https://www.eurotherm.com/products/t...er-controller/

Like, if I just want this to end up in a CSV file or something......

    Don't know anything about anything.

The specs list Reports: NO, so I'd say it won't provide a scheduled data dump, but live reading shouldn't be an issue from my 2 minute study of it.

    Is this a remote unit?

You can connect to a modem and hotspot via modbus and host on a cloud platform (zedi, scadacore etc)

It's a unit I haven't bought yet, but it'll be sitting in an urban building in an industrial park.

Would be even easier then as you'd be able to connect to a cell network.

~$3-5k in equipment and you'd be able to live view the unit remotely.

You would have to automate the polling on your end...not at the device.

If a guy (a guy like me) owned this equipment and had no special training, but all day to reference internet etc, could het get it done? Seem so.

    How important is the data?

Not important enough to pay for a fully engineered instrumentation solution from the companies that specialize in this.
Important enough that if it takes me a full week to figure out, and a thousand bucks of hardware, I'm happy.

Look for an open source modbus server that will write to an Excel file. Put the PC local near the measuring device. Go get the data manually occasionally ?

That would work. If I had a PC running open-source modbus software, I'm sure I could do data exports as needed. Cool.

Docker + NodeRed is probably the low hanging fruit if you want it to be opensource and just get it working, there's a modbus library that's really easy to use. There would be tons of YouTube videos on how to get this going.

Is there something special about that particular controller?

Also, you should be certain you really want it in CSV. If you're sampling sufficiently fast and for a sufficiently long time, it's likely that you'll have memory issues trying to work with it.
Alternatively make sure you set limits to CSV size so it can be smart enough to write to a new file.

Nothing special about that controller as far as I know, other than the fact it is already installed on a piece of equipment I may need to operate.

In that case I'd say familiarity is as good a reason as any. Still take note of my CSV comments above, I think you replied before I edited my post.
