    Default Clean-Up of Dead Animal

I'm not entirely sure how to create this thread without it sounding insane.

There is a half skinned carcass of a moose on my roof. It looks as though it's been there for approximately two months and has been rotting away on the nice days in Calgary. It's the weirdest, most fucked up situation that I've dealt with in quite a few years (which is saying a lot!) and I am not sure how to proceed forward. Fish and Wildlife has been called to assess it, 311 has been called as a precaution. My question is this -

The fat, skin, bones etc will have melted? Disintegrated? Whatever.... into the asphalt roof. There will be a bacteria left over. How do you clean that? How do you sanitize an asphalt roof?

Those magpies are getting stronger every day.

Moose died or was killed, coyotes have their round with it or other dogs.
Then the birds have at it.
Unless you have a cougar, I would expect it was a hawk or something that took it up there. It would be the skin and not much was left over after coyotes. Don't ask me how I know. Lets say, I found my dog.

You or your hubby sucks it up, wait for a warmer day, peel that off with gloves on and into garbage bags.
No need to create more city jobs for this one.

I wouldn't bother "disinfecting the roof". Are you drinking from the downspout? If so, you probably have more tar toxins and fiberglass in your body to worry about.

Anything left, birds will get. By summer you'll never know it existed.

    Where do you live?

Legend has it that great beasts with wings have been taking moose up to rooftops and feeding on them.

Mike, are you suggesting a hawk can carry a moose?

I like this thread and I think it has great potential.

Theres a place that does crime scene cleanups in edmonton. They are privately owned. How do i know? When i had a dead skunk in my wall, im a giant pussy when it comes to dead/rotting shit so i called anybody i could. I didnt get a price, because i manned up eventually and got the fucker out myself. A moose however, i think there would be more puke than moose on the roof by the time i was done.

Maybe check them out. They said theyd come out to calgary, LOL

Yeah, you just have to suck it up and not think about what you're doing till after.

Had to drag and bury a little deer once. Won't jack the thread for the story but it sucked. The whole time I was expecting it to start moving and come alive.

No, I'm saying that piece of it, a hawk could carry it, large amounts of meat or bone on it, and no way.

If dannie lives inner city, I would expect a more interesting story.

After you have removed the mystery moose, clean the roof with a 50:50 mix of laundry strength liquid chlorine bleach and water. Apply with a sprayer and allow the solution to soak on the roof surface for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with low pressure water, garden hose pressure ideally.

Do not use any sort of de-greaser or insoluble solution, it will melt the tar in the asphalt roof, which then in turn will ruin your eavestroughs

At least it's cold, less smell when the mystery moose is frozen.

    Good Luck!

    wait what...

on another hand, i was wondering about this. Yesterday I almost hit a dog running across the street.
About 9 o clock at night
Medium sized black dog just saw it run between the bushes. Good thing I wasn't speeding or it wasn't icey as i was 1 foot away from it.

I stopped looked around, no owners. What does one do in a situation they hit an animal?

If it's dead, 311, if it's alive and in pain you have a moral dilemma of whether or not you want to spend on someone else's dog at an emergency vet... or just report it to 311 and drive away.
