Wow, it's coming along quickly now, great watching this. Hearing that you're getting your son in to help and learn is great too btw. I wish my father had taught me mechanics - not his thing either, he taught me shooting and dynamic entries/etc instead, hah.

You know, I was going to post in this threat about the graphics on a Samurai a guy I know had, and was wondering if you were going to do anything along that route - so cool seeing the door with graphics, can't wait to see the finished product - are you planning on paint, wrap, more graphics, etc? It looks so bad ass just with the door on already...

I’m going to powder coat the aluminum bits and paint the doors, hood, roof black. Once all that’s done I may get a buddy to do a Japanese rising sun or something. Would be cool.

I just spent the last hour and a half cleaning the heater core and greasing the controls. So gross.

Hood and front end is not attached.

Pedals and dash in. I’ll flame treat the dash to bring the Color back since I have to take everything apart again to get the body powder coated. I’ll have to take special care to attach things to aluminum because of galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals.

Anyway. 2013 Toyota highlander to show scale

Got some eyes in tonite. Just have to mount the coil, airbox and figure out the wiring then I should fire up.

I’ll rip around with it unpainted for a while just to see how everything fits before I disassemble for paint. I’m going to need fender flares and a lift kit.

    Still needs:

Battery hold down, seat belts, some fender trimming g, door latches waiting on spacers which are at the machine shop. Then we should be rolling. Once that’s achieved I’ll order a lift kit and some axle seal kits.

Paint is a long ways away. New bumpers will be ordered. Once it’s painted I’ll take special care to mount everything with rubber gaskets to ensure no (or limit) galvanic corrosion. Will also take it to a fab shop to get a sick roll bar done.

I can show you a picture of why that's funny & endearing, and not mean. Since fewer people seem to be getting my saucy wit, these days...

Awesome, be so much fun to have this. You've done such a great job with this build. It looks cool as is, but with what you still have planned to do, will be grand.

I feel precisely the same way. I've been really interested in the watches SJW builds, but this Samurai has shown he has impressive transferable skills. Plus a friend had one when I was right around the age teens start learning to drive officially (age 14/15), and we tore around it gleefully for a couple years.

When finished this is going to be so bad ass.

I went for a rip down the street. Seems good. The steering shaft is rubbing on the fender. Needs a trim. Other than that I’m bringing it down to coffe n cars next meet. People are gonna wonder wtf it is. Also I feel like a rattle can of flat black is going to cover the doors and hood temporarily. Prob plastic weld the grill and paint it too. I think I’ll need to powder coat before I do any off-roading.

He would also tie some amazing flies back in the day as well. He stopped giving me some after I stuck a 10hr to make fly in a tree.
