Is the market crash short lived? Trying to shop for a CUV for a co-worker, and used prices (particularly Toyota) is back up to new price levels. New cars are still 10+ months out, and not even hybrids.
Toyota in particular seems to be really trailing the pack when it comes to inventory levels. Not sure why they're struggling so badly.

Driving by any of the domestic lots, I see a sea of trucks / SUVs. Kia and Toyota, nothing in the lot but used cars.

Truck market isn’t tanking either. I’ve talked a few dealers but there isn’t much movement. I was reading and article about the high margains are supply the manufacturers money to move electric so they are happy to sell less and make high margains.

Buying a used truck is hard right now too, 30k get you a truck in the 200k range for the options I’m looking for. 60k gets me what I want but then 8.9% interest rates. Screwed up selling my truck 3 years ago. luckily it’s still a want not a need.

Yeah I went browsing and saw a few things I liked but baulked at 7-9% interest rates. No sense buying now at that bs.

I don't understand how the car market hasn't imploded on itself.

A simple automatic mustang GT convertible is now $80k after taxes ... how can an "average" person afford that?

Probably the same way they afford their F150 limited and wakeboat hitched to the back. Monthly payments stretched over the next ~100 years or so.

I don't think the "average" person would be in the market for a Mustang GT convertible.

What they should be looking for is a Kia that only ran over one tire and flipped in the air once...no pets & never smoked in!

The speed these cars are going up is boggling my mind. I have no clue how we're going to afford cars in 2030. Seriously.

I’m starting to think they will lower production targets, keep re selling old that requires expensive maintance up keep the dealers will thrive.

We also might be in the window where people are so upside down they can’t afford to sell for less. Dealers have paid way too much for the used vehicles they can’t sell for less.

If the average person requires a f150 they can buy a xlt but it’s 70k+ now, not affordable at all, they will be forced to buy used.

If everything goes as our Lord and Savior JT wants, 80% of the population won't be able to afford them, cutting emissions and thereby completing the circle jerk.

Everyone seems addicted to credit. People are probably just rolling their cars into new ones and extending payments not realizing how much the higher interest rates will make them go underwater. I don’t think we’ll see much for a crash until Josh tries to trade his F150 in with 25k negative equity and no one will touch it.

It does shock me that most dealerships websites have switched to financing pricing defaulting to show weekly payments. That always felt like scammy numbers people put in car flyers but now everything is doing that.

Lower production numbers are being imposed. GM came out and unapologetically told the public - we’re keeping inventory so it matches our pricing strategy. RIP car deals
