You don't have to tip but if you use the place a lot.. then do something to show some appreciation. We used to take our dog to daycare and would give them a gift card at Christmas as a thanks.
How about you pay your bill for their service?

I hate tipping in general though. Repeat business should be sufficient.

Sure but why not give a bit extra to say thanks? Tipping is perfectly acceptable in certain cases but it seems some people are just too stingy to want to show some appreciation.

There is a difference in "tip culture" and a "Thanks for looking after my dog and ensuring it stayed alive and healthy".

Yeah I'm firmly in the mindset that not killing my dog or getting it sick is definitely item #1 of the basic level of service I'm paying for. That is, in no way shape or form, above and beyond. In fact it's like the only thing I'm expecting them to do

The only reason I'm entertaining it at all is because we haven't used boarding services before so I don't know what's normal, and this is a mom/pop shop that has pretty reasonable rates.

    Thanks guys.

I thought tipping the girl at the doggy daycare was for a different reason…

Actually. I could have sworn that was the only reason tipping was ever a thing.

It's become something that is expected essentially everywhere now, or at least an option to tip..

You're right it is everywhere but its still your choice to make to tip or not. People used to tip before tipping was a thing.. Its all the social media and money grabbing franchise owners who had made it out to be such a bad thing.

Tipping is not a bad thing and can make a world of difference to someone for doing a thankless job. Whether its a monetary thing or even something getting a cold beer after working your ass off.
