    BUMP.

Looking for an ultra-wide monitor under $500. The main feature I'm looking for is being able to split it in half for multiple applications with my work Surface.

Is the budget enough or am I out to lunch with $500? I found this? https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00122892

    Might be good?

Personal preference, I would want a higher resolution at that size of screen.

Make sure you check sites like Rtings for good reviews before you buy: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/revie...ures/ultrawide

I'm running 2 of these flanking a 27" orientated in portrait mode:

Edit: I also run PowerToys in the background to setup dedicated window fancy zones: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/

Keep an eye out at London Drugs and staples. They have LG monitors and you can price match at MemEx.

I have an older version of that one and 2 24" for a 3 monitor setup. My old eyes can't handle more resolution...

How much real estate are you working with? What kind of resolution / colour accuracy do you need?
I found myself replacing my desk because it wasn't deep enough to give me distance from the size

Any monitor you buy should be at least 1440p resolution.

1080p on a UW monitor is wasting the purpose of the monitor.

    ^^Too slow, what he said

An ultrawide that's 27" should be at least 1440p, so anything 30"+ should be that at minimum. My 10 year old 27" monitor has 1440p LOL

Having used my ultrawide for years I'd recommend just going with dual monitor setup. Works better for almost everything IMO.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for responses!

Curved isn't a deal-breaker but would be nice. Desk space isn't a concern right now but has to be new so I can expense it at work

Having triple monitor setup for ages, I can't wait to go to an UW.
My goal is a 49" UW on the bottom with a 34" UW on top.

Most I know that loves UW are business or data analyst and geophysicists but personally 2 monitor also works best for me.
I tried running a 34" UW and a 27" in portrait and found the UW to have lots of unused space. running a 30" in landscape and 27" in portrait now and finding it to be a good balance.

also not fun when someone is sharing their UW or 4K screen in an online meeting lol

I have two 27" monitors at home and honestly have thought about going to a 37-41"+ ultrawide.

The cost of getting into something color accurate at that size though is a bit eye-watering.

I've been running a 49" Samsung g9 for 2 years now, ultra wide life ftw.

But yes full screen sharing is a no go, I just select the one app I want to share and it looks fine in the other end, kinda sucks having to swap to another app time to time but not the end of the world.

We gave these to our geophysicists and they are nice and not cheap

If work will pay for it then consider this guy

34 inch 1440p. Built in USB hub so you can get a cleaner(ish) setup. 144hz via display port
It's a VA panel so if viewing angels are a concern so it may not be a good fit but for the under $500 budget I don't think you'll get better bang for the buck

Yeah that's pretty nice!! I'll take one

Finding a monitor that's at minimum 100% sRGB (preferably well beyond like 120-133) and not entirely shit in the Adobe space (like 85%+) just ratches up the price to well over $1,500. At those prices I think I'm dreaming more than actually going to purchase haha

Thanks for this tip @benyl on price matching. So far either that Dell or this LG are key contenders, but the latter I'd have to cough up extra 200$.

    https://www.staples.ca/products/3035...tor-34wp85cn-b

FYI if anyone is interested; price matching through MemX comes out to $731 vs $750 at Staples.

Just gonna read up on the Dell one more.

That VA panel should be fine and you don't have to pay extra out of pocket. But if you have a height adjustable standing desk and adjust often, you may notice the viewing angle issue of VA panel.

Had a old 34" UW 1440p panel for like over 7 years now for my home office. I don't miss the dual 24" 1080p I had before.
