^Damn. This shit is tempting me. Though the fact that they maybe cool looking even back then, but the ride and interior is going to be absolutely shit keeps me in control a bit. Haha.

Ya that gen of g wagen is such a dud. A friend in high schools parents bought one in ‘05 and my only memory from driving it is how underwhelmed I was. It’s still pretty cool, but really mediocre for driving in the city.

That too. ... so I'm not sure why people are crying cause shipping is completely out of the importers control. You have mult-billion dollar companies losing millions daily because of it. You think an importer of 20cars a year can do something about it?

btw: some shipping companies are trying to re-route to other US ports to get their cars.

Doubtful. I sent an e-mail looking for an update last Tuesday and all they want to tell me is how hard they're working for others. I guess they didn't like my reply because I never heard back.

Thanks Daniel. The last time we communicated you mentioned that mine was in the middle of 30 vehicles:

“It's still showing the remainder 30 or so vehicles as being booked for the next boat, but we don't know exactly when that would be. Yours is right in the middle of the ones already booked.”

If that is true, how did it not make any of the other vessels or 1 of the 23 via container?

When can I expect the vehicle to get to Vancouver?

    Thanks

    Hey,

The normal port would be the Yokohama port. But part of the problem is that the port has been full. It doesn't have to be at the port to be booked for a vessel. Most vehicles are either at the port, at the main yard in Japan (which is where yours is), or at a supplementary yard until a vessel is assigned.

We did just work super hard to get 23 units on to containers instead of by RoRo. And we are looking towards the next container ship as well to possibly send some units over.

Yes, unfortunately with the most recent boat, we had about 40 spots that were booked for it. Then at the last minute we were told we would only get 7 spots. It would have had your vehicle arriving in Vancouver likely on Monday if it had made that boat.

We weren't given any information on why. While I've been working here, there might be like 1 unit bumped every couple of boats. So we're in rather uncharted territory right now.

It's still showing the remainder 30 or so vehicles as being booked for the next boat, but we don't know exactly when that would be. Yours is right in the middle of the ones already booked. There's now like 100 behind that pack of 30 that are still not booked.

As soon as we have some more information, we'll send it out. Sorry for the delay, I wish the ocean shipping companies would be a bit more transparent.

    Daniel

Update: After that e-mail, I've finally heard back. They're offering to ship my vehicle via container ship at a +$950 cost to me or continue to wait for RoRo (roll-on, roll-off vehicle shipping vessel) for the agreed upon price landed in Vancouver.

    What would Beyond do?

Containers have huge port delays too. Does that give any guarantee of delivery date?

They claim the vessel for the containers is departing July 20th and is scheduled to arrive August 4th. That said, it doesn't mean the container with my vehicle would be off the boat on August 4th. The container would need to come off and then get unloaded.
I feel like this would be throwing good money after bad.

Probably a long shot, but get them to commit to a date that you'll have the keys in hand, and you'll pay them in full when you get the car. If they don't meet the date, they incur a penalty of $100/week.

If they won't entertain something like that, it's a good indicator they aren't confident you'll get your car any faster.

Personally I'd just wait rather than dropping the money for the off chance itll show up sooner.

You've waited this long... What's another Month or so. I think you'll have it by late August realistically

$1000 is a pretty big sum. If you don't take the container offer will they still get you on one of the other roro ships from the schedule that i posted? If so id wait another few weeks.

I'd pay the extra grand all day but only if it guaranteed some type of relatively early delivery.

No guarantees for anything. It's either pay another $950 to ship it in a container or wait for RoRo (that i've already paid for).

Is there any broker who imports vehicles first and then sells them? I'd pay some nominal sum, say $1000, to be first in line for a vehicle, but if it was delayed or I changed my mind, that $1000 isn't too steep a price for the option to back out.
