I'd go back to the 80s cause that is when I was the same age as my kids.

Top Gun, Back to the Future, Karate Kid, Commando, over the top (lol), spaceballs, stand by me.

for 90s, Point Break, Good Will Hunthing, Fifth element, pulp fiction with a few scenes omitted, fargo (wood chipper), 6th sense (I see dead people), Total recall. fuck load of movies.

Lucky, my daughters aren't the biggest fans of movies.

I had never seen The Princess Bride until recently with my kids. Apparently it was 1987, but they liked it. Super neat seeing Andre The Giant.

Aside from all the ones listed so far: Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Jumanji, Rush Hour, Matrix, Braveheart, Armageddon, Encino Man, Speed, Dante's Peak, <insert 90s Disney Movie here>, Space Jam, The Iron Giant, Aliens.

Lots of great suggestions, I'll add The Sandlot.

You definitely want to show them 'Kids', as a precautionary lesson in life.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

When my daughter was 10 we watched What About Bob? and Groundhog Day, now she's a Bill Murray fan for life.

    It's almost PG13 by today's standards.

Also TPIM nailed it. Princess Bride is fantastic (my wife doesn't care much for it, which is a contentious issue for me).
Robin Hood Men in Tights also .

I think multiple potentially underage potential rapes exceeds today's hurdle for PG-13.

    Police Academy anyone?

    I also think 80s > 90s.

I remember watching this again as a teenager on VHS, and wondering where the nudity and swearing came from, compared to watching it on tv when I was younger.

I wonder if you can find the old TV edits of some of those movies like Police Academy and Spaceballs...

Probably in some weird torrent world somewhere. Was surprised when I saw tits when I rewatched it as I grew up with TV edit.

They likely all changed genders. That absolves responsibility for, well... anything.

Some great movies listed so far.

Not 90s, but add Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places, Terminator, T2 to the list

Do kids/retro movies get better when watching with young kids/teens? I enjoyed all kinds of animated & stuff well into my late 20s. But have somehow been jaded past couple years. Even grown up movies I don't enjoy as much as I see thru the bad plots/writing and implausible situations. Really takes me out of the moment. Old video games I still enjoy from time to time and prefer over new games because they are much more puzzle-like.
