Personal opinion, the comedies of the 90s and early 2000s is peak movie comedy. I'll rewatch those versus some, "consulted and approved by all" comedies.
I think this is why stand up comedy has made a comeback. Last place to see comedy. This will go away too or just not make it to easy viewing.

Great scripts stand the test of time. Effects, camera work, wardrobe, etc does not.

As to the "why 90's and not 80's"? I personally just love the vibe of the 90's, and I think for my one kid particularly, the aesthetic is interesting to them. I like the 80's too, but also wanted to keep a somewhat tight topic.

I think American History X clearly is the best recommendation to watch with your children…

We’re on a Con Air and The Rock train currently, think Untouchables next

    MiB movies.

I'd recommend Wild Orchid but it was 1989.

+1 for Goldeneye, that was rated, rightfully so, as one of the best games of all time.

Some great stuff in this thread that has made my own list to re watch this month.

    Movies :

Unforgiven (great film, also can tell the kidlet units that it was filmed in and around Calgary)
    Tombstone
    Titanic
    Dances with Wolves
    GoodWill Hunting
    Fight Club
    Event Horizon (Classic Horror, teenagers+IMO)
    Fargo
    Ace Ventura
    Dumb and Dumber
So I Married an Axe Murderer

    Tv shows:
For kids that like SciFi, Deep Space Nine (best trek series by FAR)
Firefly (Technically not 90s, but very early 2000s, and an excellent way to spend 13 hours with your kidlets IMO)
    Horatio Hornblower TV films

    Video games:
Original PC Rainbow 6 game, late late 90s
Quake 2 - along with RB6, the FPS game that started the craze IMO
    Blade Runner PC game

Ok, no lie, I have watched Clueless in the last 12 months, and I enjoyed it, as I knew I would.

Casino, Goodfellas, and Heat.... maybe for an older teen. That being said my oldest watched all the Jurassic parks/worlds (Excluding the newest one) before she was 9.

    T2?

Like that's the best movies out of the whole franchise AND in the 90s.

And on the animation side, it's basically Disney's renaissance. Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin. Iron Giant sneak in at 1999.

Nightmare before Christmas, Home Alone are classics.

And in the same vein, George of the Jungle?

My kids are a bit younger (5 & 3) but they've really been getting into movies "mom and dad watched as kids" in the early to mid 90's. Some of the more age appropriate ones we've really liked are Home Alone 1 & 2, Flubber (Robin Williams was brilliant), Space Jam (which turned into watching 80's and 90's Looney Tunes), Matilda, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Honey I Shrunk Ourselves. We've also watched all of the classic Disney movies like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Robin Hood, 101 Dalmations etc even though those are obvious way older than the 90's.

They also really like some of the older cartoons like Duck Tales and Chip and Dale. They weren't keen on old school ninja turtles but I am working on them.

Its been cool to experience some of these again with them as I have some pretty vivid memories of me at that age watching them. The only movie that hasn't worked out was Land Before Time because that is wayyyyy darker than I remember.

This is the first movie I saw in theaters. Enjoyed it then but can't watch it now.

You beat me to it. With kids, the 90s were a golden age for Disney animated movies. Encino Man (otherwise known as California Man on Disney+) is funny when you look at all the names in the movie.

Outside of T2 and Last Action Hero, Arnold movies started falling off here (depending on how you feel about Eraser).

Stallone has Demolition Man and Cliffhanger in the 90s. Maybe Daylight is worth re-watching, or Copland.

Other movies I loved around the 90s:
    White Men Can't Jump
    A Few Good Men
    The Bodyguard
    Desperado
    Starship Troopers
    Timecop
    Ernest Scared Stupid
