    I don't think any airline includes time for de-icing into its schedule. I am not sure why that is.
    While TikTok's points have validity, the root cause is that they aren't even really fucking trying. Start with "it's cold - fucking book it and if it suddenly warms up, we'll have the ability to cancel". Instead of "fuck it - let's just see what happens."

    I agree, they do not attempt to account for it.

    Summing up my back-to-back comparison between WJ and Lynx

    1. Schedule
    Westjet: 1.5 Hour delay + 1.0 hours of delay upon arrival due to gate problems. No advanced notice.
    Lynx: 4.0 Hour delay + a last minute gate change. I was given a 12+ heads up for a 3.0 hour delay, so I didn't spend too much extra time at the airport.

    Despite the longer delay with Lynx, I think Lynx was the least worst just because they gave me more notice.

    Winner = Lynx

    Crew
    Both crew were helpful and polite. Although the WJ crew was snapping at people for doing things like using their phones during the safety demo or wearing headphones during announcements, while the Lynx crew just let people do whatever.

    Winner = Draw

    Service:
    Westjet: Coffee/Juice + Cookies/Pretzels
    Lynx: Water

    Winner = Westjet

    Cleanliness:
    Westjet: Typically old plane with stains and smells.
    Lynx: Spotless and no smell

    I think because Lynx doesn't serve crumbly snacks and liquids that stain, the plane was just a lot cleaner.

    Winner = Lynx

    Comfort:
    Westjet: Had a premium area, but back in the cattle car area it was cramped. I had to eat my cookies like a gopher because there was no space once the tray was down. I also had only about 1" of knee room. There was no TV in the headrest, but it did have a quirky plug in for power.
    Lynx: Seat spacing was similar, but with no premium area at all. The seats were really basic with no TV or power. They were however Recaro seats, so surprisingly pretty comfy. The low profile shape of the seats (as opposed to WJ which were very bulky) made it feel like I had more space and breathing room. One added perk was that because there was no premium area, you could use the washrooms at the front or back.

    Winner = Lynx

    Carry On
    Westjet: 1 Carry-on + 1 Personal item. However, they were begging people to check their carry on at the gate, which later turned into threats of just taking peoples bags away to be checked.
    Lynx: Only 1 personal item. However, they didn't enforce the size at all, so you could probably just bring a backpack and be totally fine. If you wanted to bring a carry-on, it was a 70$ upcharge, which was still cheaper than the WJ flight.

    Winner: Draw

    Final Thoughts:
    This is the first time in probably a decade I've flown economy, and it was more or less as awful as I remember. I selected my flights based on convenience, which is how I ended up with 2 different carriers.

    Overall I liked the Lynx flight better, I didn't see any meaningful advantage of the WJ flight to justify the price premium other than I could bring a carry-on. I actually preferred the Lynx water service, it just came off as honest. WJ service felt like they were trying to pass off 30 cents worth of snacks and beverages as premium. The fact that the Lynx plane wasn't covered in cookie crumbs and juice stains was also nice, it looked and felt way cleaner. I don't let people eat in my car... so I kind of appreciated that in the plane too.

    In the future I see no issue to use Lynx again. However, whenever possible... I'd prefer to drive.

    Anyone have any problems with online check in with Lynx? Trying to check in for flight tomorrow morning but it just gives errors. Tried multiple devices.

    Westjet, Flair, and Lynx are taxpayer funded now.

    Other than not being able to check in online, things are actually going pretty well with Lynx. The check in line in Phoenix had no line. The plane from Calgary left ahead of schedule and arrived early. We boarded early for the return trip and looking like going to leave early to head back to Calgary. Even got into the Centurion Lounge which wasn’t packed for once.

    They are definitely strict on carry on size (I don’t disagree) and tags need to be on them. They WILL check to see tags. Plane is only half full so plenty of room. Overall not too bad.

    Being strict on carry-on is excellent. All airlines should be. Fuck everyone who pushes the limits on that shit.

    If you count grants, a lot of businesses are government funded. Not just airline sector.

    I think AB want to grow this sector. Hence incentive for more business to come, just existing players exploiting the heck out of it.

    I still think they got it backwards. Carryon should be charged, checked should be free.

    You are paying for time, security and convenience.

    Every industry is taxpayer funded. Every individual as well.

    Some are just more taxpayer funded than others, just like individuals.

    Overall, I think the government spends too much per program, on too many programs. Some pilot training dollars is not high on my list of gripes.

    I'm debating trying Lynx for an upcoming Phoenix trip in March, airfare for 4 is just over $1,200 on Lynx vs $2600 with WJ

    Thoughts and prayers. Sounds like two bad options.

    My flight with Lynx went good today up until I was in Calgary terminal. I'll post about that in the YYC delays thread. But the flight itself was good.

    and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

    If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

    Total cost of a round trip to Calgary was 123.57$ all-in. I didn't get a broken out cost on my receipt for the flight package.
    Technically I made $1.43

    Did they send it to you via e-transfer? I'm still waiting for that refund from back in November/December.

    They sent me a password for an e-transfer... but the e-transfer hasn't come through yet. It does say it could take 30 days.
