That makes sense. I was thinking of just bringing a backpack and just gonna YOLO a long weekend in the cheapest way possible. It's just a cheap way to get to Amerikuhhh
Exactly like haggis88 said, but I wouldn't trust them for a long weekend. More like "I have a week off, and want to leave on Saturday, but it's totally fine if my flight gets moved to Monday"

Related, flying to Abbotsford is so much nicer than YVR, and for many destinations in the lower mainland or sea-to-sky country, actually faster.
Abbotsford is a nice little facility and a pleasure to fly into/out of compared to YVR (unless it's raining since you have to walk outside to the plane). Departure lounge can get pretty packed on popular fly-out days but apart from that no complaints.

As far as Flair goes, never used them, but the last time I was coming back from Abbotsford they canceled the sold-out last flight of the day to Edmonton for maintenance reasons. That was a sad/angry noise from the crowd.

At least they're maintaining their planes

I'm not sure how I feel about surprise maintenance.

That just means something broke and wasn't deferrable. It happens a lot, to every company. Usually it involves a bird strike.

I once wrote on a report that there was a suspected bird strike on the engine

I took a picture and circled the large birdshit on the inlet volute

They didn't think it was funny

    Spoiler:
I work on powergen jet engines, they don't fly

Any place that’s easier to get to from Abbotsford, isn’t worth going to in the first place. So that can save you a lot of time and money right there.

Was transiting through YYZ a few weeks back. My Air Canada Flight was delayed 15 mins to 9:15pm. The other flight coming back to Calgary - Flair Airline, was delayed from 7pm to 1am. That would suck.

    Lynx got me.

Booked a round trip Calgary to Phoenix flight on Nov 24. Depart on Jan 12.

This past weekend, my mom was looking for the same flight but couldn't find it. My brother texts me saying it looked like they combined the Jan 12 flight with the Jan 13 flight. I took a look at my booking and sure enough, says we are flying on the 13th now. That doesn't work for us so I had to cancel it and go elsewhere. $35 fee x 2 (wife and I) and no refund, only a travel voucher for future travel as I had to cancel outside the 24hr booking window. lol.

If you booked a flight and the flight date was changed you shouldn't have to pay any fees to cancel and get a refund.

That'd be nice. Could have been worse even. Since they didn't tell me the flight date had changed, I could have taken the booking all the way to be under the 72 hour departure window and get $0 for cancel. No voucher, no refund. And still have to pay the cancel fee of $35 x 2. Ouch!

No refund with these guys, just the fee and voucher only.

More than 24 hours after booking:

For cancellations made more than 72 hours before departure, you’ll be charged a $34.50*CAD + tax cancellation fee per passenger (per flight segment). You’ll receive a travel voucher for the remaining amount (if applicable).

It seems like you must have missed a memo or something…

Because changing the flight to a different day and then only offering you a credit less a fee doesn’t pass the sniff test.

If they change the scheduled date by more than 2 hours, they have to notify you in writing (email) and ask for your consent to the change. you can choose to accept or get a full refund.

You can create an APPR claim.

    https://rppa-appr.ca/eng/right/fligh...-cancellations

According to their Tarriff, on page 104 for involuntary refunds, they should be giving you all your money back. A schedule change (which this is) is within the airlines control this far out.

This isn't like fighting a Lane Splitting ticket. It's going to be much more difficult and arduous.

Can only tell you guys what I know. Booked for Jan 12. Changed to Jan 13 without notice. No email. Nothing in my inbox about the date change. Nothing in my spam folder. Ironically, there is also no communication about the voucher either. lol

Couple people in this thread with a relative situation:
