I think you're going a little overboard there Bob. Sure its not an ideal situation but he's going to be home during the trial run so will have a good vibe check. Whats the difference between a website like the one you posted and kijiji besides the fact that you assume a level of trust with one because they have a fancy website and assume no trust with another? Finding a stranger on kijiji with no courses, no references and just dropping your kids off at their house and leaving is one thing but this is a good way to try out an emergency back up if he's working from home that day. Back when you were a kid your parents would have found a babysitter through a friend's kids or from a 8.5x11 hand written poster on the board at the local coffee shop. Kijiji is just that.

Its totally not ideal but all things considered in this situation I'd say this is a pretty low risk way to try it out and see if it will work or not.

I'd use a babysitter after I'd met them in person and seen them interact with my kid. Don't care if it's Kijiji, Facebook or the bulletin board at Safeway.
Most people who harm kids are relatives anyway.

And I may be totally wrong admittedly but it still would freak me the fuck out to the point I would just stay home and deal with the fallout... I just can't get past KIJIJI. There is like zero ramifications. AT least with a business they can be researched to a legitimate degree. Nothing is foolproof though, there is no doubt, but with my kids I gotta try and go for as much as humanly possible.

Edit - please let me say again... I feel bad for the OP, I really do. It is not an easy thing to always deal with and I am so not trying to sound judgie. I really am hoping you get a way to make shit work well for you!

So what’s so complicated two grown ass adults can’t get past for the well being of their kids?
This seems like a weird question to ask about 2 divorced people. At least based on all the messy divorces with kids that I have been peripheral to.

I think I'll side with the dad here who says he prefers not to use the ex wife.

This may need it's own thread. But people who have security cams INSIDE their house are weird.

Back to the topic. I hear the issue with the kijiji babysitter. But it is a last resort. But anyone else have an issue with it being a highschooler? I was thinking more like a Ms. Doubtfire type nanny.

I kind of go the other way. If there's a adult, who enjoys childcare, but is still available for short notice daytime weekday babysitting, that doesn't speak highly to their employability.

I gotta agree with Bob. Getting a babysitter off kijiji would be my absolute last case scenario.

Id be looking for recommendations from friends, coworkers, and lastly, beyonders, as OP already did.

Sorry for your situation OP, you're truly stuck choosing between a turd sandwich or a giant douche

@killramos , here's the thing, I need to be downtown presenting to 2-3 companies per day. The meetings have been booked weeks in advance, with up to 15 people present in each meeting. If I wake up the day of 3 important in-person meetings, and I can't drop my kid(s) off at daycare to do my job because they're sick, rescheduling those meetings is no small task. Especially when it takes weeks for kids to recover, it seems. And I just started at my new job, so bailing on booked-in-advance client meetings is not a good look. I Hence my original post.
Do what most parents do: If your kid is sick you drop them off anyway at the daycare and then go downtown to do your meetings. By the time the daycare calls, and you are able to pick them up, your meetings hopefully will be done.

I admit I have done this.

"Children's Tylenol makes your child asymptomatic for 4 hours, and tastes like Cherry(R) flavour"

This might be the best marketing slogan yet.

Quick update. My kijiji Grade 10 baby sitter worked fine. I did call her reference in advance and chatted. Again, I was home working at the same time and checked on them every hour or so. I'll probably use her again, unless I can find another one via a family/friend-reference.
Regarding the kids mom, yes there is a safety issue, hence she's not my first choice. It's not an ego issue.
Regarding kids Tylenol to hide symptoms from the daycare, a) my contract with them specifies a serious penalty if parents do this exact thing, and b) I'm trying to avoid being that-parent as long as I can. Other parents doing this is a reason my kids get sick at daycare in the first place, causing this headache for me and other parents in the first place. Not trying to lay a guilt trip here. I'm sure I'll be that-parent one day.

Eventually every parent is. When the cough lasts for a week or more, its DM time.
