    MotoAmerica - Barber Motorsports Park

Today's race was shortened from 20 laps to 16 as requested by Dunlop (where have I heard that before? (Answer: NW200)) because Barber is in the spring this year instead of late fall. Jake Gagne started on pole and led every lap. Josh Herrin had a great start from the third row but started dropping back. Cameron Petersen finished 2nd behind his teammate. Mathew Scholtz finished 3rd, Cameron Beaubier 4th and PJ Jacobsen 5th.

British Superbikes Donington Park Race 1

Fuck yeah I found a guy who uploads full BSB races. Race 1 was a bit dull as far as passing goes, but it was a perfect race by Kyle Ryde. Started on the pole, led every lap, and was kept honest by Tommy Bridewell and Leon Haslam but was never under any real threat. Bridewell held onto 2nd from Haslam as his Ducati was fast enough on the straights that Haslam's BMW couldn't outbrake him into corners. Lee Jackson finished 4th and Glenn Irwin finished 5th just ahead of Josh Brookes.

I like the way BSB does qualifying. Qualifying for race 1 is set by qualifying times like any other racing series. The grid for race 2 is set by the fastest lap times from race 1, and race 3 is set from race 2. Haslam will start on the pole for race 2 with his record-setting fastest lap from race 1.

British Superbikes Donington Park Race 2

Race 2 was looking a lot like race 1 until lap 12 of 20 when Kyle Ryde highsided himself out of the lead and out of the race. The safety car came out to allow for cleanup and the race was restarted on lap 15. Tommy Bridewell was in a scrap with Leon Haslam and Jason O'Halloran until he had some sort of mechanical issue and dropped out. Haslam ran out of grip at the end and O'Halloran held off a late charge from Ryan Vickers to win his first race of the season. Vickers' 2nd place finish is his first ever BSB podium finish. Josh Brookes finished 3rd, Haslam 4th and Lee Jackson 5th. Race 3 will be later on today, and MotoAmerica race 2 will be later today as well.

Callum Crowe is expected to be back tomorrow after his day 1 crash. Number 7 seeded sidecar passenger Jake Lowther has been banned from the TT for failing a drug test.

It's still early so most of the sessions have been just getting a feel for the course before doing any setup changes on the bikes. Still, 132mph on the superbikes and 118 on the sidecars is fast for day 2. Day 3 of qualifying continues tomorrow.

    Isle of Man TT

I don't know if I've ever really said what all the different classes are. I don't really know all the specific details like you'd see in the rulebook but here's kind of a rough idea.

    Superbike:

1000cc 4 cylinders, or I think up to 1200cc V twins, or I think 500cc 4 cylinder 2 strokes. I don't think there are any V twins or 2 strokes running this year. Most are inline 4s with the exception of Michael Rutter's Honda RC213V-S. I think the BMW M 1000 RR is the best bike, but it's also being rode by the current best rider, Peter Hickman. Other bikes include the Honda CBR1000RR-R, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and Yamaha YZF-R1. The Hondas look good, but again, they're run by the best teams including HRC, Padgett's and Michael Dunlop Racing. The Kawasakis are fast but don't seem to be able to keep up with the BMWs. Yamaha hasn't won a TT for something like 15 years and it doesn't seem like they work that well on a road circuit.

The Senior TT is the final race of the TT fortnight, and is a Superbike race. You can also race a Superstock bike in the Superbike races, since they're so close. The Superbike and Senior races are 6 laps long and they stop on lap 2 and 4 for fuel and a rear tire.

    Superstock:

The same bikes as Superbike, as long as they're available in a street legal form. I think that would rule out any 2 stroke. There are only minor modifications you can make so the bikes are very close to what you can but at a dealer. The Superstock races are 3 laps. There used to be just one race and it was 4 laps, but now there's 2. They'll have to stop for fuel, but I don't know if it's mandatory to stop on lap 1 or 2, or if it's open. They'll likely put a tire on as well.

    Supersport:

These are 600cc inline 4s, 765cc triples and 900(ish?) V twins. For as much as the Yamaha R1 seems to be off the mark, the YZF-R6 is kind of the bike to beat in Supersport. Also you'll see the Kawasaki ZX-6R, Honda CBR600RR, Triumph Daytona 765 and I think the Ducati Supersport 950 is eligible but I don't know if anyone is riding one. The Supersport races are 4 laps long and they'll stop for fuel at the end of lap 2. Some change the rear tire, some don't. They used to have to run treaded tires but this year they're allowed slicks so there'll likely be a new lap and race record.

    Supertwin:

These are ~650cc twins. When it started off, the Kawasaki Ninja 650 was the bike to beat but after that the Paton S1-R Lightweight was the one to have. I think once they get them sorted out the Aprilia RS 660 will be what everybody runs. The Supertwin class was meant to be affordable but there's so much that goes into getting a Kawasaki or Paton to survive that it's become very expensive. And the Aprilia makes stock what a tuned-to-within-an-inch-of-its-life Kawasaki or Paton makes, that putting the same effort into an Aprilia will make it run circles around everything else. The Supertwin races are 3 laps, and like the Superstock races they can only go 2 laps on a tank of fuel so they'll stop on either lap 1 or 2.

    Sidecars:

I don't really know what goes on with the sidecars. I'm sure they used to be 600cc inline 4s, and then someone started running Triumph triples. I think Dave Molyneux is running a KTM 890 so I don't know what the rules are now. Maybe it still follows the Supersport rules where big twins are allowed. The difference is that there's a driver and a passenger. The passenger acts as active ballast. They don't have the top speed of the solo bikes but they can corner faster. There isn't much overlap between solos and sidecars. Generally you do one or the other. Maria Costello used to, and maybe still does, do the Supertwin races and she also drives a sidecar. Solo rider Dean Harrison's dad, Conrad Harrison, is a sidecar driver. The races are 3 laps and they do them all without a pit stop.

Isle of Man TT - Day 3

Sick of the TT yet? Too bad, it's awesome.

Dean Harrison, Michael Dunlop and Peter Hickman are all into the 133s on day 3. Harrison and Dunlop on Superbikes, and Hickman on a Superstock. This seems early to be going that fast, and if the weather holds we might see a new outright lap record. Harrison briefly held it in the 2018 Senior TT at 134.9mph, but later that lap Hickman beat it and won the race with a 135.452mph lap.

In the Sidecar class, the Birchalls again set the pace but with Pete Founds and Jevan Walmsley right behind them. Callum Crowe was able to return today after their crash on day 1, and set the third fastest time of the day with brother Ryan. Matt Stevenson, injured yesterday, will miss the TT with a broken femur. Alan Founds has found a passenger in Colin Smyth to replace Jake Lowther, who failed a drug test yesterday.

Isle of Man TT - Day 5

What a day, what a week. Since the TT course is on public roads, there's no testing that can take place. You turn up at the event having not been there since the year before, and off you go. You'd think that the riders would ease into it just to get themselves up to speed. Day 1, Michael Dunlop, Dean Harrison and Peter Hickman have all done a 131mph lap on superbikes. Day 2, Hickman is up to 132. Day 3, Dunlop and Harrison are at 133 on superbikes, and Hickman is at 133 on a superstock. On day 4, the pace finally settles. Today, day 5, the last day of qualifying, and what happens? Hickman goes 134. Harrison goes 134. Dunlop goes 135.531. A new unofficial lap record. Prior to this, the only person to ever be in the 135s was Hickman, at 135.452 in 2018. And if that wasn't enough, Dunlop broke his Supertwin lap record as well, 123.474mph to 122.750. It looks very much like Michael Dunlop is the man to beat.

    Superbike:

    1. Michael Dunlop 135.531mph
    2. Peter Hickman 134.910
    3. Dean Harrison 134.216

With qualifying now over, the races start tomorrow with the Monster Energy Supersport TT Race 1 at 11:45 local time, 4:45am Alberta time. You'd have to think the favorite is Michael Dunlop, starting off 6th. Peter Hickman starts 10th. Dominic Herbertson, starting 13th, might have an advantage as there'll be a 30 second gap between him and Hickman. Conor Cummins, seeded 11th, is out with a viral infection or something, and I don't know what happened to 12th seeded John McGuinness as he never qualified the bike. Not sure if they had problems with it or what. I also expect Paul Jordan and Jamie Coward to do well, starting 3rd and 4th. 50 riders will start the race.

At 2:15pm local time, 7:15am Alberta time, is the 3wheeling.media Sidecar TT Race 1. Since the second race in 2013, Ben and Tom Birchall have won 12 races, including the last 9, out of 14 entered. The only races they haven't won were once because of a crash, and once for a mechanical issue. Pete Founds and Jevan Walmsley have been fast as well this week, and Ryan and Callum Crowe are riding momentum from a podium finish last year. 24 teams will start the race.

Isle of Man TT - Monster Energy Supersport TT Race 1

Race day is finally here, after a delay caused by a car accident on the course before the roads closed. Dean Harrison led from the start to Glen Helen, and after that it was all Michael Dunlop. Harrison was unable to hold off a late charge by Peter Hickman, with Hickman finishing 0.394 seconds ahead of Harrison. Jamie Coward finished 4th and Davey Todd 5th. This win is Dunlop's 22nd TT win, with 7 races left in the week and 4 to go to catch his uncle Joey Dunlop's record 26 wins.

Because of the 3 hour delay I won't be able to watch the Sidecar race until tonight, but with good weather and fast times all week it'll be good.

Isle of Man TT - 3wheeling.media Sidecar TT Race 1

The Sidecars can be a race of attrition. They're powered by supersport motors and carry probably double the weight of a supersport bike. Tim Reeves and Mark Wilkes retired on lap 1, as did Dave Molyneux and Dan Sayle. Ryan and Callum Crowe retired on lap 2. Pete Founds and Jevan Walmsley pushed Ben and Tom Birchall as hard as they could, but the Birchalls cruised to their 10th win in a row. In the 100th year of the TT, John McGuinness was the first to break the 130mph barrier. This year is the 100th anniversary of sidecars at the TT, and on lap 2 the Birchalls broke the 120mph barrier with a 120.357mph lap. Founds and Walmsley finished 2nd, John Holden and Maxime Vasseur 3rd, Steve and Matthew Ramsden 4th and Gary Bryan and Philip Hyde 5th. Dave Quirk and Karl Schofield crashed at Brandywell on lap 2 and were airlifted to hospital. No news on their condition, other than both driver and passenger were conscious.

One race tomorrow, the RST Superbike Race at 7:40am. We'll see if anyone has an answer for Michael Dunlop, and if Dunlop can back up his 135mph unofficial lap record.

World Superbikes - Pirelli Emilia-Romagna Round, Race 1

Boring race. Danilo Petrucci qualified well but crashed out while in 4th. Alvaro Bautista led every lap again, followed by Michael Ruben Rinaldi, Toprak Razgatlioglu, Axel Bassani and Jonathan Rea. The factory Ducati bikes are yellow for some reason.

Razgatlioglu is going to BMW next year, leaving a seat open at Yamaha. Tom Sykes left Kawasaki Puccetti Racing because they were awful and is now in Michael Van Der Mark's seat while he's injured. Sykes still finished out of the points though. Tito Rabat is at Puccetti now and they're still awful but the bike made it to the end of the race at least.

Tune in tomorrow to watch Bautista win the Superpole race and Race 2.
