I saw an article months back that the Chinese version has limits on it for kids and something with the algorithm that maintains a percentage be educational and state sponsored content or something. Didn't fact check it though as I don't touch tik tok with a 10 foot pole. The amount of absolute garbage on there is absolutely terrifying.

TikTok has a stronger reach than Hollywood. Which is why the US wants to ban it. The US literally spent the last 50 years cultivating Hollywood to be the dominant means of propoganda control at expense much greater than NASA.

Huawei makes better computer chips? Ban it.

China makes Hypersonic aircraft? Ban them from NASA.

Asian guy would make best president? Ban him (her not a chance BTW)

I don't know if its a good plan to ban the best, but it is a policy allright. TikTok arguably is a few hundred thousand lines of code that cost about 1/10,000.000 what the USA spent on Hollywood to get it rolling... If Bitcoin was programmed by a single Asian guy it would probably be banned too at a ratio to the US dollar in the billionths.

Personally I think its just plain jealousy. Elon can simply buy a propoganda machine (Twitter) but the USA spent more money on what is an inferior outcome come 2020+.

When Elon paid $44 Billion for Twitter, I can imagine TikTok might be worth closer to $100 Billion. Hollywood cannot be purchased as a singular entity anymore, its too diverse.

Its not like specifically went out of their way to block outside apps, The great firewall of China blocks everything.

They also censor Chinese citizens and block Chinese apps as well. Its more fair that way, if you ban everyone you know the rules.

Usually China bans inferior tech and suspected malware. USA bans superior tech (and sometimes uses the excuse of inferiority and malware). China is the exact opposite with food, you can eat nearly anything, whereas the USA you can pretty much only eat chicken, pork and beef without being hassled about it.

This is one of the reasons that China is winning most tech races.

Yes, the USA and Russia are both still ahead of China in Space (orbital) launch technology. I'd argue that Russia is ahead of the USA in orbital tech as of 2022. I'm not so sure about optical computing.

If you've ever seen the walled garden that Amazon has for their fire tablets, its pretty much China - but on a billion person scale.

Morality aside: Copying, mimicing and then surpassing anything that is superior does tend to be a path to success. Maybe the USA is too moralistic in its view of copyright?
