    Default Towing Recomendation

I think my Jeep Grand Cherokee's starter is toast. Drove fine this morning, at lunch went to start it and all I got was a single click - no turnover, and a puff of smoke come out of the hood.

Looking like I'll have to get it towed to a local mechanic - but haven't ever had a vehicle towed before. Any recommendations for non-emergency towing? Anything I should consider with an all wheel drive vehicle? It's currently in my garage, so will need to get it out of PARK and at least on to the driveway.

Check the battery before you get too far down the towing rabbit hole.

Did that. Used a battery booster - voltage was reading 12.5 through the startup sequence and attempts.

A quick trick is to hit the starter while someone tries starting it. Usually with a broom handle or with a hammer (lightly) from below. It's saved me a tow more than once.

As far as towing goes. Most tow truck drivers now do the full setup with the dollies under the dragging wheels or will do the full flatbed towing.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

just get the mechanic to pick it up, they'll have a preferred tow company.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

I'd try this for sure first.

had a similar issue, tapped the starter with a stick while someone on the other side try starting and it managed to free the solenoid from being stuck to start the car. This got me going to get home and around for the short term, just annoying.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Puff of smoke could have easily been some plastic around a wire or throttle cable. Aged vehicles typically have ground issues

Good luck, hopefully a simple fix.

I'll see if I can get at the starter today. Vehicle is only a 2017 - so not that aged.

    This. What a nice offer!
Or, sign up for the card yourself. There's no annual fee! It's the black one "Triangle World Elite" or whatever bullshit name.
