It was no charge, but I think mainly because I told him I had specifically asked the previous tech if they had cleaned it, which they clearly didn't.

Bonus.
That's fair. Good businesses show their true colours when they fix their mistakes.
that's great to hear @MOB68 . That feedback is def important especially as down the road, I will need similar maintenance and wanted a good business

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.
That may be true, but any house will have something. Look under your sink. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

There's just enough cocaine left on those bills to act as sandpaper, and it really energizes the sensor. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Bump, been messing around with diagnostics 9n my furnace for a while, amd I'm reasonably confident I know what's happening, but not the best way to fix it. I have too much heat rise, and that triggering my limit switch.
I don't suspect a faulty limit switch because I have measured my heat rise multiple times and found it higher than spec. Most recent measurement was 90f. Variable speed fan is now set to highest speed.
Possibke that gas valve is letting in too much fuel, or something else. About at the limit of my own diagnostic capabilities.
Suggestions for HVAC tech that thinks a bit before they try to sell a new furnace?

Maybe walk in to Arpi's and explain your situation, ES.
The counter guy there gives free advice? Or they'd schedule a better tech based on my request?

Atco will examine for free.
Or lower the furnace's viagra dosage.
+1 for ATCO first. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Last time I called Atco they told me they were booking months out. But yeah I'll check them.

Assuming all your supply and return vents are open and air filter is not restricted your next step is measuring the gas manifold pressure to see if it’s at 3” WC or whatever your nameplate asks for. Could be ‘danger to manifold’ situation and may need to turn it down a touch.
1) is that something that changes over time? I've lived in this house for 15 years.
2) don't own a manometer. Have no doubt I could buy one, but this is rapidly approaching professional territory, isn't it?

Also, how adjustable are most gas valves? Mine is a 36J24 type 618, which is super common.

I’d say they all are adjustable for heating purposes, but I wouldn’t die on that hill. Pilot and main burner have separate adjustments, usually hidden under slotted caps flush on the gas valve. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I would suggest calling somebody in. Running too hot will shorten the life on the heat exchanger.

I’ve always been happy with W&J Heating. Last time I called them out to check something on my furnace, the tech encouraged me to keep my current furnace as long as I could.
Decided I'm not as scared of adjusting gas valve today as I was last night. Wish me luck.

Techs are good, the sales people... are sales people. Tried forcing me to pay them to put an unnecessary hole in my wall "because code" when it was not required by code and gave me an estimate for upgrading my thermostat to the one I already have. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member.
