Up to you @danno . Mine was misfiring and had stalling issues.

I bought the car used and didn’t do one till 185k km

It was pretty gummed up. I’ll assume no one had done it before me so that’s what 185k km of carbon deposits looked like.

As an FYI: the injectors were fully replaced

Yes when I do mine I’ll also do injectors. Guys tend to do it every 80k km for the rs4, but as mentioned if they go back in after 30k it can look bad. You also don’t want a chunk of carbon to break off and damage the cylinders I believe.

I’m at 140k km and believe it was done at 80k just before I bought it. I do need to throw some injector cleaner in there once it hits the road.

For me it was media blasted so they vacuumed all the junk out. I don’t know if I’d do it as a maintenance item, but do it only if shit hits the fan

    Easy DiY... Or not.

What's the long and veiny of this video? I've never seen this guy without hoping that he'd fall over dead. Who knew Hoovie would be the least annoying part of Hoovie's Garage?

Carb cleaner melts carbon; scrape away

Is this engine carbon cleaning an Audi thing or all German brands?

It's a Direct Injection thing. Since the gasoline goes directly into the cylinder, it doesn't have a chance to wash the intake valves on its way in and carbon builds up like crazy.

I don’t know all the engines but the b7 Audi v8’s, bmw 335 and ecoboost 3.5 are the big 3 I believe that have it.

The FA20DIT in the WRX and the FXT have it as well. The FA20 in the BRZ/FRS escaped it because it has dual injection.

That's why I just say I have a 4" dick and lift weights to make up for it.

If my limited knowledge is correct, these engines don't last long enough for carbon buildup to even be an issue

This guy assess all the options and he's at least not a total idiot or annoying. Good production value.

Saw a guy on Kijiji offering walnut blasting for $300. Not sure what that entails with that cost. Disassembly or just the blasting.
