    Default Attic blow-in insulation

Any beyonders do blow-in insulation or recommend anyone? What is average cost to get this done? It's for a single floor bungalow 1120 sq ft

As a follow up can this be done in the garage without ripping apart drywall in the ceiling?

Easy enough to DIY it honestly. Home depot, buy 30 bags of cellulose blow in insulation and they'll rent you the machine for free (Home Depot Shawnessy).

One person crawls in the attic and just points the tube and fills from the end back towards your attic hatch. It is messy so coveralls, mask, safety glasses, etc. You can get decent range on it, 15-20 feet or so so I didn't actually have to crawl overly far from the hatch. Other person outside just opens the bags and dumps it in the machine, really easy.

Total DIY cost is about 500$ to add R30 to your roof. Though depending on your setup you may need to ensure you don't get insulation on the soffits, may need to add baffles, depends how it was made. Some old houses don't even have vented soffits (mine didn't) which isn't ideal but just old house things.

Had mine done back in January.

Approx 1200 SQ Feet cost 2K.

This included replacement of soffit vents and top up to R50 I believe.

Looked at doing it myself but in the end really didn't want to deal with it.

My friend somehow kinked a wire he stepped on (in the trusses) so bad that it started a tiny fire that they were lucky enough to catch and extinguish after he "helped" his friend do this job. YMMV.
    I kink shamed him.

Dow Froth Pak spray foam is better. But way more money.

I need to do this for my attic. Will do it myself and risk kink shaming, doesn't seem too complicated just a day of work is all.

That's what im asking. There are bedrooms above garage. It needs more insulation. Can they just punch holes and blow in rather than the attic area. I haven't been up in the attic of my garage yet. Maybe I should check it out before I post another stupid question.

You can, but the best way for areas like that is spray foam since it creates a thermal break.

So you're saying its possible to do it this way with "insulation". Punch small holes, inject, be warm.

It's definitely doable, I'm sure someone in Calgary does it. There's not a lot of spray foam companies here so you might as well contact them all.
