Default Minium width on double garage for a lift

I've seen various widths of double garages from 19 to 24ft but curious who has a lift and how wide your garage is. Looking at putting a lift in but don't think there would be enough room.

I don't think there is one answer for that. I would probably call lift king or whoever the fuck is selling lifts now a days and give them your specs and see if they have a lift that will fit.

Some lifts require more space than others. You'll also need to consider the height of the garage and slope if applicable

    Usually height is limiting factor.

Single post lift so it's out of the way for the 2nd car.

Depends how much crap you keep in your garage, what kind of work space you wanna have, what your second(third?) vehicle is that you actually wanna park daily beside the lift... How deep your garage is? where will your tool boxes go? Lots of factors...

2 post lift or 4 post? Single post would be sick..

I wouldn't try to put a lift in a garage that was only 19 ft wide. That's how wide the garage was in my first house and it felt like there was barely enough room to not hit the car beside you with your door when getting out. It was tight.

Guy that I know has a 2 post lift on one side of his 20ft garage. He did it with the intention of wife parking in the space beside it. But no room for tools so she parks outside. #wifegoals

19' wide is an oversized single, not a double

My garage is ~28 feet or so wide and I don't think I would try to put a 2 post in anything less unless you want a crowded garage.

Depends if you want door dings or if you want literally nothing on the side walls.

12ft is enough for a 4 post lift and a bit of door space to swing; so a 22ft wide garage would be fine IF it has two doors and space the doors a couple fee apart so your other car can get in. A single 17ft door is not a chance.

That being said what do you want out of the lift? If it's just wheel changes and brakes then I'd look at a flush mounted infloor lift cut into the garage pad. Heck you could even have it centered so you can pull both cars out and have lots of space to wrench. Otherwise if your pad is poured right a single side post lift would also be really nice.

4 Post lift is dumb unless you want it to store a seasonal car, too much of a pain too shuffle cars if they are both you ones you want to drive periodically. 2 post is the least efficient space wise, so if you're asking this question then you likely don't have space.

    This.

    Minimum 24 feet.

Lifts are 11 to 13 feet wide. Cars are usually 6 feet wide, trucks about 7, you definitely want 3 feet per side to not feel cramped.

Builders quote stand alone garages by outside dimensions, so you lose 1 to 1.5 feet wall thickness.

That makes minimum width 24 to 27 feet wide.

My first garage was a 22 foot garage with a 4 post drive on and I hated it. Way too cramped.
