You guys are delusional if you think all 3 domestic brand trucks aren’t trash. Just pick the one that tickles your gonads best and be ready to drop your pants / bend over at any moment.
Yep everything has their own problems.

OP, what kind of distances are you going to tow? Specifically, the horses. Are we talking from your place to an arena? All over AB in rodeo? House to trailhead? Only in warmer months? I think if only short, weekender type trips I think you can get away with a half-ton. Budget will drive the decision, but I’m sticking with best case is a 3/4 or 1-ton gasser (you said in original post it will be “wife-maintained” that’s bad news for a diesel). Backup plan is the newest, highest payload half-ton you can get.

exactly that...I've heard diesel is best for towing but yeah wife maintained, I don't want to deal with this shit at all haha. I am thinking I'll find a miled out work truck...why not.

There is a 96, 2wd, 1996 Silverado 3500 dually, gasser for sale on FB Marketplace for $16,000. I think it has 45,000miles. You should buy it

@GTS Jeff I got a response from a buddy of mine.
2019 f350 crew long xlt 4x4 85000km gas 6.2 auto wholesale 42000. Probably after cleaning it up that's retailing for 50000
That's about as old as he deals with. And that's a low-mid trim truck with the base gas engine. Hope that helps.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

I'm not too embarrassed to say "I had no idea you could buy a 1-ton with a gasoline engine".

    That's... Retarded Victoria's Secret Model.

Whoa thanks you guys. Extra slow that seems like a deal but more than I would want to spend. Doesn't need to be a 19, can be an 09!I have a question about 2wd dualies though...does they have really good traction like 4wds?

A 2wd dually will have worse traction than a regular 2wd truck, both with limited slip diffs. Trucks have very poor weight distribution and dual rear wheels makes it twice as bad. A 2wd dually in snow or mud will get stuck going downhill.

Traction or dually is a binary choice. I mean, locker and roster tails is fun too....
