Looking to install firepit in backyard. Have seen tractor rims used, and seems like a solid way to go.
Anyone have a connection or suggestions where to find one of these?

Could try calling tractor repair shops and see if they have any old/junk rims they’d sell.
Otherwise Kijiji? This listing is out of Calgary https://www.kijiji.ca/v-farming-equi...ble/1651121741
This one is way North of Calgary - https://www.kijiji.ca/v-tires-rims/e...bes/1653790354
Without holes in the sides, these make kind of shitty, smokey fire pits.
You have to cut out the inside anyways. Not hard to cut vent holes in the side while you're at it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Any suggestions for better, permanent built in firepit?
Plan to dig it into ground a bit and surround with flagstone or paver bricks.

Depends on what you're looking to do exactly, in regard to seating area.

That vid outlines the prep involved with setting a proper base for pavers.
You can buy fire pit stone kits from home depot and similar places, the fire ring you can source from various folks on kijiji, online, retail stores. Folks on kijiji will cut up large pipe sections and sell them off.
Then you get into a smokeless/as smoke free pit to which involves drilling/cutting out holes on the side of the pit...plenty of online articles and youtube vids to demonstrate this, and providing an air gap on the side of the ring.
I've looked into this myself and I eventually plan on doing a nice fire pit area myself for our new place at some point...maybe later this year.
36" steel pipe. Cut a few holes yourself.
Kijiji dude has some.

You can also use a metal drum instead of a tractor rim if you're cutting it anyways.

Washer machine drum.
Am I the only one who thinks all this looks trashy AF? Like sure, great for a burning pit on an acreage, but for having permanently installed in your back yard?

Yes. Using an old rim as a fire pit is trashy.
Maybe that matters, maybe it doesn’t.

There are 8' diameter tractor rims (from the 1920's steam powered ones) near my farm (500 meters away) let me know if you want those. Plus an endless supply of smaller ones. I can cut out the inner bore for you if you want those as well. Basically as small as 1 meter in diameter

These are quite popular, functional and ornate. Not cheap, though.
If you ever go to the Millarville Farmer's Market, you can see them, there.

Thing is that they will all burn up, oxidize and rust because metal outdoors. But will still look good with the cutouts while in use.
Sure you can buy a rim or pipe section and use only that and it will look 'trashy', to each their own, otherwise build a rock fire pit stone setup around the ring. The ring is there to retain the ash/fire.
I like the pipe style firepits. If you want it to look classy get some fancy cutouts in whatever shape. My bro did that and he's got fish and wildlife cut outs.

I say stupid shit all the time.
That would be awesome! I'd love to snag one of the smaller 1meter size ones from you. Could definitely pay you for your time to cut out the inner bore too. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Smokeless pit seems to be the way to go, could do an insert for a stone pit or just get a standalone like this:

Those do work good, a friend brought one over and we used it, there was minimal smoke.
Any firepit can be smokeless, if it gets maximum oxygen. Prope ventilation in whatever design used is important.
