    Default 2023 Federal Budget discussion

Freeland is publicizing her hardest work since last year.
    What does everyone expect?
I don't think she understands inflation and will increase spending, rather than any taxation cuts which arguably, the tax cuts would do better for anyone earning an income.

Also up for debate, soft landing or a death spiral to major recession?

Increase to cap gains exemption to pay for another enormous increase in spending on no identifiable benefits for Canadians.

There is zero chance of spending cuts. and I expect overall taxation for the beyond.ca demographic is going up, but there will be a lot of TALK about taxation cuts. I expect dozens of focused mentions of "the middle class" and "Canadian families" and "good jobs".

Beyond.ca is not part of any of those categories they way they will be used in this document and speech.

When do all the benefits of us legalizing and taxing the shit out of the multi billion dollar cannabis industry come to fruition?
Where the fuck is all that money from the past 53 months??!

Do we have a government that is so incompetent, they can't make money selling weed? That's not acceptable.

More debt, more tax revenue, more inflation, less freedom. A budget grand slam!

As a "retiree" I actually plan to try and go through the entire budget this year even though I'm not living in Canada... just to confirm what I've always assumed:

    1. The information/detail is completely lacking; and
    2. Billions of dollars that are spent on services people do not actually need or want.

I might decide I have better things to do but I'll try to put a solid half day into the review, anyway.

MMT is designed to manage inflation less through interest rate/ monetary policy and more through taxation policy.

Of course the problem is increased taxation also causes inflation.

Population of Canada increased by 1 million in the past year. Fully expect them to heavily lean on hiding out of control spending by claiming the debt per person is smaller

We should be so lucky if many of them work for a living

To be fair, along side increasing interest rates for borrowing and saving, taxes are also an effective tool at tackling inflation. There is less money to be spent by consumers thus reducing demand. What should happen though is the increased taxes are used to provide relief in the form of social programs to help those that the increase taxes hurt. Wasteful spending however is counter productive as it doesn't reduce debt or requires printing money that ultimate contributes to inflation.

Aren't there a few tax increases that were triggered by inflation that just came into effect? I know the liquor tax was one of them which has all the small town folk just freaking out.
