I could masturbate to videos of magpies being murdered on a loop. There is no worse bird. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The ironic thing is that magpies help keep the woodpeckers away. Seriously
Tap, Rack, BANG!
Also, if you're not shooting them, check out YT vids on how to suppress a sup 500 fps air rifle to make it even quieter. (Suppressing a non firearm isn't illegal, yet). This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
If you wanted to post some items of things I should.. Avoid... And where I shouldn't go to.. Not buy them... It would be very unhelpful.

We have lots of Flickers around and they've never caused a problem, so my anecdotal experience is that they aren't a problem. In fact, I think they keep the spiders down.
Curious, do you live in an older neighbourhood? We do and haven't noticed an issue. Maybe the suburbs have less established trees? IDK.
Ultracrepidarian
I don't. But perhaps you were referring to OP.
Please move this talk to the "what neighbourhood do you live in mega thread"

Thanks for all the advise! Sounds like we should just leave them be and wait it out.
Yes we live in an older area. There are ~8 fully matured trees in our backyard alone. We get alot of Magpies too but honestly we didn't know that's a bad thing until this thread. Now it make sense why the previous owner was showing us his personal technique to shoo them away...
Id take 20 magpies over a nesting goose
I have the middle woodpeckers pictures on the prev page. Those fuckers wake me up, as they're destroying my stucco.
I got this fake owl (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1), I think it works, but the issue is it only protects one area of my house where the birds can see it.
I think I'll get some of that bird-scare reflective tape to put in a few places. https://www.amazon.ca/Kugge-Holograp...s%2C244&sr=8-5
Pigeons have taken roost along someone's house on our block. Just waiting until I need a device to take them down.
A prairie falcon was hunting a pigeon on the weekend and the pigeon smoked itself into our back window and basically died instantly. Pretty nuts to see the falcon take it away considering they're the same size

We live in Garrison, some older trees in the area, but we have no trees in our yard. Neighbors got a few column aspens or something, but nothing substantial they could live in.
Each spring the magpies and robins fight for my backyard.
So close... Do it, touch the wire!
I'd just like to comment on the thread title. A woodpecker is a type of bird. A wood pecker is not the same and if OP has a wood pecker that he would like to get rid of, I'd suggest a Google Image search of Lizzo.
